Sophie Pascoe Named IPC Athlete of the Month

New Zealand’s Sophie Pascoe, already a two-time winner of our HardCore Swim of the Week honor, has been named the IPC’s Athlete of the Month.

Pascoe was voted as the winner of the award after going 5-for-5 at the IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal in August, including taking the grand-slam of winning the 100 free, 100 back, 100 breast, and 100 back, all in the S10 category save for breaststroke, where she’s an SB9.

She also tacked on a win in the 50 free, and World Records in that race, the 100 free, and the 100 fly.

Pascoe, at only 20 years old, has now won 11 World Championships already. She received a huge 44% of the vote in a field of 7 athletes, and took the honor over, among others, Australian swimmer Maddison Elliott (2 golds, 1 silver at Worlds – at only 14) and Ukrainian swimmer Olga Sviderska (7 World Championships in the S3 class).
