USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Aiden Bond has announced his verbal commitment to William & Mary for the upcoming upcoming 2023-2024 season. Bond is wrapping up his senior year at Gonzaga College High School, located in Washington, D.C.

Bond trains and competes year-round with York Swim Club in Chantilly, Virginia. He specializes primarily in sprint to mid-distance freestyle, with the occasional fly event thrown in at championship meets. This past December, Bond competed at Winter Juniors – East, where he earned his highest finish in the 50 free at 42nd (20.63). Additionally, he raced the 100 free (45.44) and 200 free (1:40.35), notching personal bests in the 50 and 200.
This summer, Bond recorded a slew of personal best times at the 2022 NCSA Summer Swimming Championship. He earned his highest finish in the 50m free at 7th with a 23.69 in prelims. He lowered his 50m free even further as the lead-off leg of his team’s 200 freestyle relay, coming in at 23.41. He also finished 43rd in the 100m free (53.54), 120th in the 100m back (1:03.36), and 140th in the 100 fly (1:00.40), all in personal best times.

William & Mary is a Division I mid-major program that competes in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The men recently finished 5th out of 6 teams at the 2023 CAA Championships.
It took times of 20.71/45.48 to advance to finals in the 50/100 freestyle at this year’s meet, meaning Bond is just inside scoring range in both events. The Tribe was led by Alex Villiere in the 50 freestyle, who won the B-final in a best time of 20.06. Joining him in finals was Gavin Lamoureux, who took 14th with a 20.65.
Valliere also led the way in the 100, placing 11th at 45.01. In addition, Eugenio Massari competed in the B-final and earned 15th overall with a final time of 45.57. All three swimmers will still be in Williamsburg when Bond arrives, meaning his addition should add needed depth to the sprint group.
With his commitment, Bond joins Will Juricak, Colin Mamaril, Thor Dyke, Ian Cullicott, and Zach LeMay in the Tribe’s incoming class of 2027. Bond is the lone sprinter of the group so far, with Dyke, Juricak, Mamaril, and Cullicott all leaning more towards mid-distance to distance freestyle events, while LeMay focuses on IM.

Aiden Bond winning 100 free at CAA
Looks like W&M is ready to make a move in the CAA
They might make a jump in the next year or two, but it’ll take a full recruiting cycle before WM can touch Bobby G. them being cut really hurt recruiting, but they’ve definitely picked it back up and then some
Tribe doesn’t need to worry about UNCW. Delaware, Towson, and Drexel are all well ahead of them.
A light peek over recruiting would show that Delaware and WM are arguably out recruiting the other schools. Uncw has good kids but not a ton of depth, same as Drexel. Towson just looking average in both departments

I don’t think they are being out recruited. They are only graduating 3 guys this year.
Yes, 2 very good guys, they graduate two very important pieces, but numerous kids still quit and may be in the portal. In my opinion, considering they have the space, they should have tried to recruit some more, 5-8 is a good size for a class, not 2 or 3. They had a chance to do more than just replace the two graduating guys and so far they haven’t capitalized. Again didn’t say that it was going to happen this year or the next, but WM will probably rival UNCW again in the near future. WM will probably jump over Drexel and Towson in 2 years and then compete with Delaware until they get closer to UNCW
