The 2022 Gulf Age Group Championships were held this past weekend in College Station, Texas. A number of athletes posted times that put them inside the top eight in the country so far this year for their respective ages. Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club won the combined team title with 2,693 points overall. 

13-year-old Micah Tennison from Swim Streamline at Northampton won five of his seven individual events this weekend, earning himself the high-point award for boys 13-14. His meet was highlighted by his 100 free time of 47.41, which is the fastest in the country right now for 13-year-old boys, and ranks him 17th all-time among 13-year-olds. 

Tennison also posted four other swims that landed him in the top eight for 13-year-olds this year. He swam a 53.09 in the 100 fly to record the 8th-fastest time this year, while his 500 free ranks 4th (4:41.37), his 50 free ranks 3rd (21.97), and his 200 free ranks 4th (1:45.39). 

Cypress Fairbanks’  Ian Maldonado recorded the fastest time of the year so far for 11-12 year old boys in the 200 fly. He dropped over five seconds to post a 2:02.77, which now ranks 62nd all-time in the event for his age group. 

Maldonado completed a sweep of the fly events, winning the 50 fly with the 3rd-fastest time in the country this year (25.18) and the 100 fly with the 5th-fastest time this year (55.77). 

Aquastar’s Crichton Vandertie also had a number of swims in the top three for 11-year-old boys, including posting a nation-leading time of 25.68 in the 50 fly and 59.73 in the 100 fly. He also posted the 2nd-fastest time in the country in the 50 breast (30.49), 3rd-fastest 400 IM (4:41.99), and the 2nd-fastest 100 breast (1:08.78).

Jorge Guerra won the overall high point award with 132 points. Guerra posted top three finishes in all seven of his individual events, with five of those being 1st place finishes. His 200 free time of 1:49.73 currently ranks 1st in the country for 11-12 boys so far this year, while his 100 IM (57.64), 50 free (23.28),  and 100 free (50.45) all rank 2nd.

12-year-old Cullen Kahl also posted a nation-leading time in the 11-12 400 IM, as he clocked a personal best of over ten seconds to post a 4:24.54. Kahl ‘s 100 IM time (58.14) ranks 6th nationally, while his 500 ranks 3rd (4:57.63),

On the girls side of the meet, 9-year-old Tracy Wang won the 100 back in the 5th-fastest time in the country this year among 9-year-olds with a time of 1:10.77. Fellow 9-year-old Lucy Simmons posted the 2nd-fastest time for 9-year-olds in the 500 with a 6:01.83, and the 5th-fastest time in the 100 free (1:02.11)

11-year-old Jaden Otwell from Swim Streamline Northampton won the 11-12 400 IM with the 3rd-fastest time of the year among 11-year-olds. She also placed 2nd in the rest of her individual events, including posting the 5th-fastest time of the year in the 100 free (55.88) and the 4th-fastest time in the 100 IM (1:02.98).

Juli Cavalcanti won all seven of her individual events, earning her the 11-12 girls high point award with 140 overall points. She dropped over 7 seconds in the 500 free to win the event by over 5 seconds with a time of 5:19.27. Her time ranks 19th nationally among 11-12 year old girls this year.
