Bronx, N.Y. – (October 14, 2022) – The Fordham swimming & diving team opens its 2022-23 season on Friday night, hosting the Manhttan Jaspers at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center, coming away with a sweep of the Jaspers.
The Fordham women posted a 182-65 win over Manhattan, while the men finished the sweep with a 177-64 victory, as the Rams won all 32 events on the night.
In the women’s competition, Fordham had four multi-event winners, beginning with Emma Shaughnessy taking first in the 50 (29.25) and 100 (1:03.87) breaststroke events, while Jessica Zebrowski grabbed first in the 50 (25.64) and 100 (56.42) butterfly events. Ainhoa Martin took the top spot in the 100 freestyle (53.78) and 100 IM (59.12) with Millie Haffety sweeping the diving events (1M – 310.58; 3M – 295.58).
Additionally, Zebrowski and Shaughnessy joined Leire Martin and Alison Lin to win the 200 medley relay in 1:45.37, while Zebrowski, Alex Antonov, Jaehee Park, and Clare Culver won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.08.
Other women’s winners included Culver in the 1000 freestyle (10:37.02), Audrey Tirrell in the 200 freestyle (1:54.22), Megan Morris in the 50 backstroke (27.16), Madeline Bergin in the 50 freestyle (25.11), Lin in the 100 backstroke (58.45), and Emilie Krog in the 500 freestyle (5:08.38).
On the men’s side, the Rams also had four multi-event winners, starting with Kevin Zahariev in the 50 (26.71) and 100 (58.97) breaststroke events, while Paris Raptis grabbed first in the 50 freestyle (21.67) and 50 butterfly (22.47). Noah Althoff then finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:45.20) and 100 IM (52.72), with Marco Petit sweeping the diving event (1M – 229.57; 3M – 193.95).
Raptis was also a part of two relay wins, as he teamed with Alex Wilhelm, Vitalis Onu, and Althoff to take the 200 medley relay in 1:34.07, while it was Raptis, Brian Desmond, Wade Meaders, and Ryan Staunch with the top time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:28.89).
Other winners included Ethan Newberry in the 1000 freestyle (10:09.47), Desmond in the 50 backstroke (25.19), Daniel Badawy in the 100 butterfly (52.71), Wilhelm in the 100 backstroke (54.20), and Staunch in the 500 freestyle (4:50.89).
The Rams will next be in action on Friday, October 21st, as they host Monmouth at 4:00 PM.

BRONX, N.Y. – Manhattan’s women swimming and diving team fell to Fordham 182-65.
In Friday’s meet, the women fell to Fordham 182-65. Manhattan secured first and second place in the women’s 200-Yard freestyle relay, scoring 11 and four points with final times of 1:49.98 and 1:53.28. Fordham got third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place but earned no points.
For individual races, in the 100-yard backstroke Manhattan’s, Teddy Segmuller came in second place with a finishing time of 1:03.01, scoring four points for Manhattan. Kyla Guilfoil came in third place in the 50-yard backstroke with a final time of 29.32, scoring three points for the Jaspers. The women’s team also came in fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke, credited to Natalia Velez-Serrano with a final time of 37.07, scoring two points.

Bronx, N.Y. – The Manhattan men’s swimming and diving team competed against Fordham on Friday and fell 177-64
In Friday’s meet, the men placed third in the 200-yard medley relay with a final time of 1:40.12, 2.08 seconds behind Fordham’s second-place group, who took first and second. This placement won the Jaspers two points.
For individual races, Branden Deiss placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle race at a time of 10:41.27, 9.09 seconds behind second place. The Jaspers also placed second in the 50-yard Backstroke credited to Andrew Lebak with a finishing time of 26.06, scoring Manhattan four points. These two placements earned Manhattan a total of seven points towards its total.
The men’s team also placed third in the 50-Yard Freestyle. Jonathan Carsen placed third place, with a time of 22.57, scoring Manhattan 3 points.
