First-year University of Kentucky head coach Lars Jorgensen has assembled his new staff after being promoted earlier this year.
Chip Kline has been named an assistant head coach for the Wildcats, coming to the program after eight seasons at Virginia. While at Virginia, he was the teams recruiting coordinator and worked primarily with the sprinters.
Kline left Virginia as part of the disassembling of their staff after Mark Bernardino’s retirement. Kline is very familiar with the southeastern United States, having spent significant time as an assistant at both Tennessee and North Carolina State.
He will share the assistant head coaching title with Derek Perkins, who is back for his 2nd season with the wildcats. Perkins came to Kentucky after the dissolution of the Clemson program.
Sarah Dunleavy has been hired for her first full-time assistant position, moving up the ladder after being a graduate assistant at Illinois State for a year. She also spent a semester as a volunteer assistant at Purdue, where she was formerly a team captain and assembled an impressive roster of leadership and academic awards.
Mason Norman is seeking stability after two-straight years of being at programs with controversial head coaching turnover. Last year, Norman was an assistant at Utah, where he coached the IM and distance groups, and the year before he was an assistant at Tennessee. Both programs saw new head coaches the year after Norman left. He had an impressive swimming career of his own, having been named Wingate’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2009.
Margo Greeman, a long-time Kentucky employee and alum, will serve as the programs Director of Operations, and Ted Hautau will return as the head coach for what has been a very successful diving program under his tenure.
Kentucky will open their season on September 25th on the road against Georgia, whose women’s program are the defending NCAA Champions. They have a tough fall-semester schedule this year, that includes match-ups with Ohio State, Indiana, Tennessee, and Missouri. Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Arkansas, and Missouri are the only SEC teams that they will face in dual or tri meet action this season, however. That means they will miss powers like Florida, Auburn, and Texas A&M.

Kline seems like a questionable hire given the fact (alledgedly) that he was the catalyst for the dismemberment of UVA… Congrats to Lars… great coach… time at Toledo was extremely successful… just want it to.work out for him…
Congrats Mason! Really happy for you! WU What?
Missouri is in the sec as well
Who is the guy to the left of Lars in the pic? Congrats to Mason Norman – a good up and coming young coach.
It’s Peter Linn from EMU
Lars is a great coach. Look for the wildcats to make an impact within two years.
