All The Links and Info You Need for the 2013 FINA World Swimming Championships

The FINA World Swimming Championships begin on Sunday, July 28th and run for 8 days until Sunday, August 4th, 2013. They will be swum in Barcelona, Spain, at a temporary pool set up in the Palau Sant Jordi.

Below are all of the links and information that you’ll need to follow the World Championships.

SwimSwam Coverage

As soon as Start Lists are released, we will have a Pick ‘Em Contest, of course.
Our full coverage can be found by going to this landing page, or clicking any of the links on the sidebar at the right.

Remember how we only had three people to cover the entire Olympic Trials and Olympic Games last year? Well, this year we’ve got 12 people covering the World Championships. Yes, that’s 12 people. You might as well tell your boss that you won’t be coming into work, tell your boyfriends and girlfriends that you won’t be taking them on any dates, and cancel all of your swim practices, because we’re going to have content rolling almost 24 hours a day.

Time

The prelims begin at 10:00 AM Barcelona time, and will run between two and three hours (the first day’s prelims will be the longest, at a marathon four hours long). Finals will begin at 6PM Barcelona time, and will be roughly two hours long each.

Around the world, those times equate to:

Los Angeles/Vancouver: 1AM/9AM
Denver: 2AM/10AM
U.S. Central Time (Chicago/Houston): 3AM/11AM
U.S. East Coast Time (NYC/Montreal/Florida): 4AM/Noon
Rio de Janiero, Brazil: 5AM/1PM
London: 9AM/5PM
Paris/Berlin/Brussels/Budapest: 10AM/6PM
Johannesburg, South Africa: 10AM/6PM
Helsinki: 11AM/7PM
Moscow: Noon/8PM
Jakarta, Indonesia: 3PM/11PM
Beijing: 4PM/Midnight
Tokyo/Seoul: 5PM/1AM (next day)
Perth, Western Australia: 4PM/Midnight
Sydney: 6PM/2AM (next day)
Aukland, New Zealand: 8PM/4AM (next day)

Broadcasts On-Air

With the exception of Australia, who shockingly has no broadcast of the meet, most of the world will be able to watch the meet on their television in some form-or-fashion. See that full clearing list here.

The schedule of coverage on Universal Sports and NBC for those in the United States is here.
The schedule of coverage on Sportsnet in Canada is here.
The schedule of coverage on BBC in the UK is here (anchored by Rebecca Adlington).

Those in Europe can pay for the EuroSport player and watch the meet streaming online here.

Internet Streams

Other than those in Europe or other applicable zones for EuroSport, we know of NO available internet streams. Keep in mind that we are not allowed to share any links to “bootlegged” feeds, as it would violate our credentialing agreement with FINA and broadcast rights of various organizations. One will likely circulate on social media, however.

On demand video highlights will be avaialble in these countries (including Australia and New Zealand), will be available on FINA.TV every day. For those in the United States, we will continue, as we have been all week, to provide video highlights after each finals competition through our partnership with Universal Sports.

Results

Live Results will be available here through OmegaTiming when the meet starts.
Full, PDF results will be available here through OmegaTiming.com.

Start Lists

After the final coaches’ meeting, the start lists will be posted here on OmegaTiming.com.

Use a proxy server or a vpn (like hotspotsheild). See link for help, http://gizmodo.com/5713626/how-to-watch-streaming-video-anywhere-in-the-world?comment=34121440.

For streaming, what’s wrong with a link like this?

Thank you for showing Jakarta/Indonesia in the list of cities to watch live for the benefit of the two of us here (Wirotomo and I), but the prelims should be 4 pm and finals should be midnight, Jakarta is in the same time zome as Beiing, and 1 hour behind Tokyo.

Aswimfan, Braden is right. Jakarta has -5 hours time difference from Barcelona.
We have the same time zone with Bangkok and Hanoi, not Beijing (+1). FYI. 🙂

I assume you live in Jakarta. If you’re in Denpasar, Bali, yeah you’re in the same time zone with Beijing. 🙂

Oh.. that’s right, I was confused, because I saw that NYC is listed at 4 am/12 noon, and I always associate that NYC is 12 hours behind Jakarta, and I forgot that eastern coast must be on daylight saving already which add another 1 hour behind.

The worst part of this is KNOWING that the Championships are airing LIVE and we cannot watch it. Some of us will be depending on our SwimSwam brothers and sisters to let us know immediately the results and describe the races. :o(

LANE FOUR,

I went & followed the suggestions from other posters on that AUS TV article, and am now watching British Eurosport!!! (WTA Tennis Quarter Finals on 1, and Queensbury Boxing League on 2)

Went with justfreevpn (there are other UK sites if you google it), and then paid £4.99 to Eurosport for a “Crowd Pass” monthly subscription to their player using my credit card (they don’t ask for a billing or shiping address 😉

Definitely worth the money, and the stream is displaying without any glitches @ full screen mode so far.

Ready & psyched for the excitement of Day 1 live 🙂

I clicked on the link to find out the dates and times for NBC but there was no information giving that information. Could someone please post the dates and times for the NBC coverage? Thanks!

From what I can tell, Hagino’s going for a suicide meet with 6 events. From what I can decipher from the Japanese media, he at least intends to swim the 400free. We can assume that he’ll swim the 200 &400 IM and 200back as those are his primary events (+likely medals). I’m extremely surprised that he’s planning on swimming both the 200free and 100back, both of which he has a shot of an outside medal. This might take away from his performances in his 3 main events …

Pretty heavy indeed for a guy who is maybe not used to Phelpsian schedules .

I would say rather pretty stupid if he swims all these races.

But to be fair, he swam all his entry times in a three day period, so he’s no stranger to insane schedules.

Just saw the start lists; do they always run 9 lanes?

That’s 10 lanes not 9…..I assume for finals they will run 8 lanes. …the first session is pretty long so I guess they decided to take advantage of the wide pool. In the US a 25 yard by 50 meter pool you can also use 10 lanes but they are a bit narrow. I assume this pool is 25 meters wide, no?
