Eastern Illinois men and women’s swim teams hosted Valparaiso on Saturday, Jan. 29 for the Panthers Senior Day. Both Panther squads were victorious on Saturday as the men’s team defeated Valparaiso by a score of 169-93, and the women’s team won by a score of 198-63.
After the senior celebration, EIU started off the day by sweeping the men and women’s 200 yard medley relays. The men’s team (1:37.26) was led by Forrest Baumgartner, Collin Feliciano, Jacob Nichols, and Dismas Dillon. The women’s team (1:50.77) powered through with the combined efforts from Katy Black, Ashley Glesing, Kaylan Ottosen, and Camryn Lewis. Kennedy Darensbourg (11:06.48) and Spencer Wilson (10:16.72) both picked up first place finishes in the 1000 freestyle.
Phoebe Croston (2:02.81) and Conner Colston (1:45.44) also swept the men and women’s 200 freestyle. Olivia Viele earned a first place in the 50 yard backstroke 28.31, while Baumgartner also earned a first place finish (24.40) in the same event. Glesing earned her second victory of the day after she won the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 32.29.
Ottosen was the next Panther to earn a first place after she completed the women’s 100 butterfly in 1:01.39. Nichols for the men’s team followed that up with a win of his own in the same event (53.96). Lewis then broke the Padovan Pool record for the women’s 50 freestyle with a time of 23.76, and then two events later won the women’s 100 freestyle (53.54).
Viele earned herself another win during the meet after she won the women’s 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.60. Corinne Staneart got on the board after an impressive time in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.70). Daresbourg and Wilson swept the same event again, this time being the men and women’s 500 freestyle. Darensbourg finished with a time of 5:28.04 while Wilson finished with a 4:58.85.
With a win in the women’s 50 butterfly, Ottosen earned her third win of the meet which was a career high for a single meet. She finished with a time of 26.93. On the men’s side, Dillon earned his second win of the meet with a new career best time of 23.76. Feliciano finished his night with a win in the men’s 100 IM (54.65). To end the night, both 200 freestyle relay teams pulled off the victories for the last time at home in the regular season. The women’s team of Autumn Grinter, Sabrina Chu, Ottosen, and Lewis finished with a time of 1:40.90. The men’s team was led by Payton Buse, Baumgartner, Colston, and Dismas who finished with a team time of 1:26.51.
The Panthers will have a couple weeks off the prepare for The Summit League Championships held in West Fargo, N.D. This will take place Wednesday, Feb. 16 thru Sunday, Feb. 20. Times will be announced at a later date.

The Valpo men’s and women’s swimming teams took to the pool Saturday in Charleston, Ill. for a dual meet at Eastern Illinois. The Beacons claimed six first-place finishes over the course of the meet, which served as the women’s final regular season meet heading into the MVC Championships.
How It Happened
- On the women’s side, freshman Haley Hume (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) — who had already broken into Valpo’s all-time top-10 in two events during her first season — moved into fourth place in program history in the 100 IM with a time of 1:04.66, earning the event win.
- Two Valpo men picked up a pair of first-place finishes on Saturday. Senior Billy Bennett (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) was the class of the meet in the breaststroke events, coming home first in both the 50 breast (27.31) and the 100 breast (59.50).
- Fresh off of earning MAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors, senior Dominic May (Naperville, Ill./Naperville) topped the field in both the 50 free (21.33) and the 100 free (46.89).
- Sophomore Ian Jaegers (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) rounded out Valpo’s event winners by taking top honors with a time of 56.31 in the 100 back. Jaegers also posted a second-place finish on Saturday in the 50 back with a time of 26.34, while senior Derek Eidson (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) registered a second-place finish of his own in the 50 fly, touching the wall in 23.89.
- The freestyle events saw two Valpo women earn a pair of second-place finishes apiece. In the sprints, it was senior Chiara Robinson (Castle Pines, Colo./Rock Canyon) who touched the wall second in both the 50 free (25.48) and the 100 free (56.40).
- In the distance swims, freshman Bridget Pollard (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) claimed second place in both the 1000 (11:28.28) and the 500 (5:28.68).
- Junior Sophie Morelock (Milan, Mich./Milan) placed second in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.45, and freshman Sara Strauss (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) matched her with a second in the 100 breast, coming home in 1:11.32.
- Eastern Illinois won the team scoring, 169-93 on the men’s side and 198-63 on the women’s side.
Next Up
The Valpo men return to action for their final dual meet of the regular season next Saturday at Ball State. The women return to the pool for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Iowa City, Iowa Feb. 16-19.
