Women’s Recap
TOWSON, Md. – Sending off its senior class on a high note, the Towson University women’s swimming and diving team capped its regular season dual schedule with a resounding 164-136 win over rival Delaware at the Tigers’ Burdick Hall Pool.
Towson (4-5) picked up three wins from senior Meagan Clark, who took back-to-back wins in the 1000-yard freestyle and a second victory just 10 minutes later in the 200-yard freestyle. Classmate Christina Coleman picked up a win on the 3-meter board, scoring a 286.95 in her final meet at home.
Prior to the swimming portion of the meet, head coach Jake Shrum and his fellow coaches honored the team’s five seniors: Meagan Clark, Karlee Carminati, Christina Coleman, Sarah DiGaetano and Suzannah Mills.
How it Happened
- Opening the day with the 3-meter diver, Coleman picked up a win with a 286.95 while Alyssa Largay took second by a five-point margin at 281.25. Senior Sarah DiGaetano was fourth with a 261.15.
- On the 1-meter board, Largay finished second with a 275.63, edging Coleman to third with a 252.23. DiGaetano finished fifth with a 245.10.
- The Tigers opened the swimming portion with a win in the 200-yard medley relay as Towson A (Hailey Ritter, Tiffany Matulis, Maddie Mince and Ava Enriquez) narrowly out-touched Towson B with a 1 minute, 46.22 relay.
- Towson B (Victoria Dichak, Katie Nunez, Samantha Casolo, Parker Schulz) finished half a second back at 1:46.78.
- Clark snagged her first win of the day in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a winning time of 10:15.61. Fellow senior Karlee Carminati took third in 10:22.51. Clark improved her season-best by over half a second to win the race for a third time this season.
- After the men’s 1,000 yard freestyle, Clark came back to win the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:51.97, outpacing Delaware’s Natalie Dobrzykowski (1:52.89) for the Tiger’s second win on senior day.
- Towson gobbled up points in the 100-yard backstroke with a 2-3-4 finish, led by Schulz’s second-place time in 58.45. Dichak took third at 59.27 followed by Ritter (59.32).
- In the 100-yard breaststroke, Tiffany Matulis finished second with a 1:05.76 with rookie Tink Tompkins finishing fifth in 1:08.92.
- Samantha Casolo strung together a strong finish to win the 200-yard butterfly, using a 33.53 final leg to win in 2:06.83 by nearly two seconds. Casolo trailed through three laps at 1:33.30-1:32.52 against Delaware’s Aislinn Mitchell. Another freshman, Laura Gaffney, finished third at 2:11.19.
- In the final race before the first break, Mince and Nunez finished one-two with just two-hundredths of a second between them at 24.24 and 24.26, respectively.
- Out of the break, Nunez finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a 52.33 followed by a Towson 2-3-4 finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Suzannah Mills finished second at 2:05.36, just a quarter-second off first. Maddie Frick took third (2:08.15) and Dichak in fourth at 2:11.25.
- Matulis finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:26.44.
- The 500-yard freestyle was a passing-of-the-torch moment as Clark finished first in 5:04.37, a five-second victory while Thomas, a freshman, took third in 5:09.76.
- Towson added insurance points in the 100-yard butterfly as Ritter finished second in 56.97 while Enriquez took fourth in 57.50.
- Flexing versatility, Carminati finished first in the 400-yard individual medley, touching in 4:31.18 as Mills took second in 4:34.52 while Frick was third in 4:36.80.
- In the final women’s event of the 2021-22 season at Burdick Hall Pool, the Tigers finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay, trailing by less than a second. Mince, Nunez, Clark and Schulz combined for a 3:29.21. Towson B was second as Ritter, Enriquez, Dichak and Thomas finished in 3:35.22.
Behind the Numbers
- All told, the Tigers picked up seven wins, including six individual wins. Clark accounted for three of those wins in the 1,000 yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.
- Towson has dominated at Burdick Hall Pool. The Tigers have won seven-straight meets in the friendly confines. Since 2007-08, the Tigers hold a 53-2 record in home meets. The Tigers went 2-0 at home this season, both wins over Colonial Athletic Association foes. Towson opened the year with a 157-143 win over James Madison.

Men’s Recap
TOWSON, Md. – Taking advantage of the team’s lone home meet at Burdick Hall Pool the season, the Towson University men’s swimming and diving program handled its business on Saturday, topping long-time rival Delaware 165-129.
The Tigers picked up double wins from Ajani Dorner on the boards while Brian Benzing turned in two breaststroke wins. Ryan Baldino added freestyle wins as well.
Between the diving portion and the swimming events, head coach Jake Shrum and his fellow coaches honored the team’s two seniors: Baldino and Nick McClure.
How it Happened
- Towson opened the day with wins from Dorner on both boards. The junior scored 280.73 points on the 1-meter side before putting up 273.45 points on the 3-meter board to win both events. Luke Gallagher finished third on both, going 174.68 on the 1-meter before scoring 188.03 points on the 3-meter.
- Swimming opened with a 200-yard medley relay win as Evan Bota, Benzing, McClure and Luke Schward combined for a 1 minute, 30.08 finish, winning the event by a second and a half.
- Towson B (Reed Sells, Patrick Flint, Noah Diacumakos, T.J. Bearor) finished third at 1:33.36.
- In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Blakely Dean finished second and just a second behind Delaware’s Andrew Taylor. The Tiger touched in a season best 9:53.58 as Taylor logged a 9:52.50. Drew Munson finished fourth at 10:05.05.
- Baldino picked up his first win of the day in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:41.42 followed half a second later by teammate Fazio in 1:42.24.
- In the 100-yard backstroke, Evan Bota took second with a 51.08, just two-hundredths of a second behind Delaware’s DJ Fechtman in 51.06.
- Extending his college winning streak to 11, Benzing dominated the 100-yard breaststroke with a 54.02, winning by three seconds. Diacumakos was in third at 57.61.
- The race of the day was the 200-yard butterfly, separated by just one-hundredth of a second. McClure nearly swam down Delaware’s Simeon Sabev, but the Blue Hen touched in 1:49.29 against McCLure’s 1:49.30. McClure put in a 28.63 last lap to pull within a hair’s breadth.
- Towson septed the 50-yard freestyle as Fazio tagged the wall in 20.92, followed by Baldino (21.12) and Bearor (21.26).
- Out of the break, it was another Tiger sweep in the 100-yard freestyle, this time led by Baldino (46.60) with Fazio in second (46.81) and Schwar in at 47.10.
- Flint took third in the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:53.65, setting up a 1-3 finish for the Tigers in the 200-yard breaststroke. Benzing won his second event with a 2:01.97, winning by four seconds. Diacumakos was third in 2:06.78.
- In the 500-yard freestyle, Dean finished second again with a 4:48.09 with Munson in a quarter-second later for third in 4:48.36.
- Again McClure and Sabev dueled, this time in the 100-yard butterfly. It was another tight race, won by Sabev in 48.75 while McClure finished in 49.55
- Flint dominated the 400-yard individual medley, laying down a 4:05.20. Ryan Bookstein logged a fourth-place finish in 4:12.34.
- The Tigers capped the day with a 400-yard freestyle win as Benzing, Fazio, Schwar and Baldino tag-teamed the event for a 3:02.55
Behind the Numbers
- Towson snapped a three-dual meet dry spell with the win, dating back to the Tigers’ win over William & Mary on Oct. 23.
- Saturday’s meet was the Tigers’ lone home meet of the season and just the second meet at home for the Towson men in the last two seasons. Saturday’s meet was the first official contest at home since Feb. 27, 2021.
