The Georgia Swimming Senior State Championships produced a number of strong performances last weekend, spread among swimmers from the state’s top club programs.
SwimAtlanta’s Jack Aikins notched a pair of PBs in the 50 free (22.74), leading off the 200 free relay, and in the 50 back (25.52) in prelims of the individual event. He won the 50 back in 25.58 ahead of teammate Bradley Dunham (25.72). Aikins also won the 50 free (22.88) and 100 free (50.03, .05 off his 49.98 PB), and he posted the top prelims time in the 100 back (54.20, just missing his PB of 54.03).
Dunham picked up new times in the 50 free (23.81), 100 free (51.27), 100 back (56.17), 100 fly (55.01), and 400 IM (4:36.50) in addition to the 50 back. He placed 2nd in the 100 back, 3rd in the 100 fly, 9th in the 100 free, and he put up the 2nd time in prelims of the 400 IM.
Camden Murphy of Athens Bulldog Swim Club improved his best times in the 100 fly (52.16) and 200 IM (2:05.74). He won both event, as well as the 200 fly (1:59.59), just off PB of 1:59.48.
Dynamo Swim Club’s Ian Grum posted a pair of Wave II times winning the 100 back (a PB of 55.30) and 200 back (1:58.57, only .08 off his PB of 1:58.49). He was also runner-up in the 200 free.
Henry Bethel from Carpet Capital Aquatics Club cracked a 1:02.13 to win the 100 breast. He also win the 50 breast and, while his 100 breast time wasn’t a PB (he went 1:02.0 at the 18&U Spring Cup in Orlando), Bethel did pick up new lifetime bests in the 50 free (23.54), 100 free (51.44), 50 back (27.67), 50 breast (28.51), 50 fly (25.62), and 100 fly (55.78).
Nathaniel Stoffle swam on three Spartans Aquatic Club relays. He led off the 200 medley relay with a best-ever 25.59 backstroke. He also led off the 400 medley in 55.81 and split 23.03 on the 200 free relay.
13-year-old Baylor Stanton of Gwinnett Aquatics went best times in the 50 back (28.81, leading off the Gwinnett medley relay), 50 breast (34.06), and 200 breast (2:42.70). This comes a week after he destroyed his PBs at 14&U States in the 50 free (25.04), 100 free (54.35), 400 free (4:15.80), 100 fly (1:00.81), 200 fly (2:11.50), 200 IM (2:11.76), and 400 IM (4:42.78).
31-year-old Leah Gingrich from Columbus Aquatic Club had a strong showing. She won the 50 free (26.35), 400 free (4:21.99) 800 free (8:58.94), and 400 IM (4:53.65 ), was runner-up in the 50 back (29.50) and 200 back (2:17.15), and was 3rd in the 100 back (1:03.92 ), 100 breast (1:12.73) and 200 IM (2:18.53). Her 50/100/200 back and 100 breast times were all lifetime bests.
Harry Evans of Athens Bulldogs went best times in the 50 breast (31.54) and 100 breast (1:10.03) and won both events. Also from Athens Bulldogs, swimming unattached, Lisa Bratton won the 50 back with a big PB of 28.84 and the 100 back (1:00.53). She placed 3rd in the 200 free (2:05.12) and posted the top time in prelims of the 200 IM (2:17.20). Teammate Millie Sansome notched PBs in the 50 back (29.43), 100 back (1:03.18), and 200 back (2:16.13, also a PB), placing 3rd, 2nd and 1st in the respective events.
Georgia Coast Aquatic Team’s Gaby Van Brunt, 15, had big swims in the 50/100 back (29.76/1:03.53) leading off GCAT’s winning medley relays.. She placed 4th in the 50 (29.88) back, 3rd in the 50 free (26.55), 3rd in the 50 fly (28.83), and 8th in the 200 back.
