The men’s 200m breast here in South Australia brought performances that merely needed to be done to make the final. SOSC’s Matthew Wilson, the man who held the 200m breast World Record for a matter of hours in Gwangju, topped the field in 2:10.26 while Chandler’s Zac Stubblety-Cook produced 2:10.64 to foreshadow a race between these two gentlemen tonight.
Daniel Cave is lurking as the 3rd seed in 2:13.36 but it appears to be a two-man battle between the aforementioned men to race to the 2:08.28 Swimming Australia-mandated qualification time.

17-year-old Elizabeth Dekkers has staked her claim on this women’s 200m fly event, reaping the top seed in a solid 2:08.49. Grabbing the only sub-2:10 time of the field, Dekkers of Newmarket Racers opened in 1:01.07 and closed in 1:07.42 to post the 5th fastest time of her career. Dekkers owns a lifetime best of 2:07.25 from just this past April’s Aussie Age Championships.
Rio Olympic finalist Brianna Throssell missed out on the top 6 slots of the women’s 200m free here in South Australia after having been a part of the 800m free relay World Record in Gwangju. The West Aussie is seeking some kind of redemption in this 2fly event, owning the 3rd seeded effort of 2:10.25, just .04 outside of Brittanny Castelluzzo‘s 2:10.21

Jasmine Greenwood swam the top MC women’s 100 freestyle prelim with her 1:02.36 which was good enough for 854 points. Greenwood will be attempting to qualify for her first-ever Olympic Games during the finals session, having represented Australia at the 2019 World Paralympic Swimming Championships. There, she picked up a bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly S10 category.
Greenwood out-scored Paralympians Ashleigh McConnell, Ellie Cole, and Emily Beecroft who scored 834 and 806 points, and 776, respectively.

Defending Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers led the pack in the men’s 100 freestyle prelims with a 48.58. That swim was actually slower than Chalmers’ current season-best in the event of 48.04 which he hit in April at the Australian National Championships.
Chalmers will need to be a bit quicker in order to qualify for the Olympics as the nation’s qualifying standard in the event currently sits at a 48.33.
Another 3 men got under 49 during the prelims as Zac Incerti hit a 48.82 for second place, followed by Alexander Graham‘s 48.94 and Clyde Lewis‘ 48.96.
King Kyle didn’t have much in the prelims, but with that field you can afford to take it easy in the early rounds.

In reality that was a fairly decent 100 free prelims – it only took a 49.3 to final in 2016.

He will need the back up with a big schedule (4 relays for starters and the 200m)

Indeed, and with no decent breastroker/backstroker or butterfly the mens medley is gone as well….and the mixed medley is getting shaky.
Women rock solid and even improving!
We have Larkin in Backstroke, he is still quite competitive in the 100, hopefully Temple will go under 51 in the Butterfly, yes no Breaststroker, we going nowhere near the Americans or the Brits & probably the Russians.

Do Australia have a QT for their relays?
Australia have qualified for all relays at the WCs……thats end of the story I think…
Thanks. It’s kind of hard to keep up with every country having different expectations! The Australian standards are incredibly tough in the individual events. I know that Britain had a QT for their relays as well as individual events.

Yeah 4×100 free, we coming 6th or 7th on those times.
thankfully , the women’s relays are always bringing an equalizer for the Australians ( 4 by 100 , 4 By 200 ,Medley relay ) . U guys must be longing to see the rebirth of a new fresh fast 400 meter relay back on track that can compete with with Russians , Americans , Italians . It’s been like around 10-12 years (2009, 2011 Worlds ) since the last High level quarted won a relay in a major champs . Feeling for u guys …

We do have King Kyle. We won the Bronze at the World Champs in 2019.
Don’t remember Russians & Italians winning to many 4×100 at Olympics or World Champs.
100 free a bit of a let-down really. Only 3 (?) under 49,
Chalmers made me nervous there with a 48.5. Was hoping for someone else to breakthrough – Lewis still in the conversation with a 48.9.
For comparison Chalmers went 47.91 in the heats at 2019 trials.
We have to remember that was also in April he probably isn’t going into this trials at 100%
Trials were in June in 2019.
Yeah, he’s probably 40% at best right now.
Looking forward to seeing Dekkers swim tonight, like to see her post a fast time & of course Throssel get that QT time & qualify 2nd after missing 0.01 in the 100 fly.

We all know King Kyle will win gold in Tokyo. I think Kolesnikov gets silver. Not sure if Dressel even makes the team; maybe he gets to swim in the prelims for the relay.
