Michigan is still expected to hold the lead after the first day of the 2013 Men’s NCAA Championships, but Cal is rapidly gaining on them. Some will be surprised how closely Michigan has held to seed after only getting one A-Finalist in the 500 free. The difference, as you can see from our up/down tables, is that Michigan in total has two extra scoring swims tonight than seeded.
Stanford, as you can see, actually came out of the morning ok, despite DQ’ing their 400 medley relay. They’d be about even with Stanford had the Cardinal not DQ’ed the relay.
USC, even with how great Vlad Morozov was in the morning, ended up dead-even on their 98-seeded points, if they hold seed again. Florida had a great morning as well, due in large part to Sebastien Rousseau going from unseeded in the 500 free to in the A-Final.
Texas, though, came out way on top on the first day. They had the biggest increase in their swimming points on the day, and when you add that to freshman Corey Bowersox making the A-Final in diving, Texas looks well on their way to another top-4 finish.
We’ve included the data in two different formats, but it is the same data. In the first table, it’s sorted by total prelims points based on seed. In the second table, it’s sorted by the +/- to get an idea of who improved the most over seed in the morning.

Thanks, missed that page. That is awesome.
Trying to find a link to live results. Can anyone point me to a link? Thanks.

Am I the only one that thinks its odd that the 50 free and the 200 free relay are on the same day? That has sort of an “All your eggs in one basket” feel to it. One day when sprinting well matters, then move along to other things.
I agree with Peter. WTF.
Am I the only one who thinks sprinters whine too much?
But, I agree with your point.
The 50’s such a boring race to watch, so let’s drop the 50 free from the meet, replace it with the 1000, move the 500 to Day 2 and have the 1650 remain on Day 3. Then we swim fans get to watch way more racing, strategy and drama.
And the 800 FRR is on the same day as the 200 free. And the 400 FRR is on the same day as the 100 free.
“Stanford came out ok”-really? How bout telling that to the coach. They better put 4 divers in the top. Go Gators!
Pac-12 schools all doing better than seeded!
Duh! Did you all honestly think Texas WASN’T going to gain big points from seed times?
