Florida State Finalist Paige MacEachern Verbally Commits to UCLA (2021)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school junior Paige MacEachern has verbally committed to UCLA. MacEachern is a current high school junior and is scheduled to join the varsity team in LA in the fall of 2021.

Maeachern is a 5-time individual event regional high school champion in Florida and is 6-for-6 in earning finals swims at the Florida High School 4A (big school) State Championship meet for Boca Raton High School. In November, at her junior year state meet, MacEachern finished 5th in the 200 IM (2:02.95) and 8th in the 100 breast (1:04.75). While both places were lower than the prior two seasons (3rd and 4th in the 200 IM as a sophomore and freshman, respectively; 4th and 2nd in the 100 breast as a sophomore and freshman, respectively), her times were faster than she was a year earlier at the state meet.

Her 1:03.55 in prelims of the 100 breast this year was a lifetime best, as was her 2:01.81 in the 200 IM.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 24.55
  • 100 free – 52.47
  • 200 free – 1:52.19
  • 100 breast – 1:03.55
  • 200 breast – 2:19.30
  • 200 IM – 2:01.81
  • 400 IM – 4:23.93

She’ll overlap for one season with the Bruins’ current top breaststroker, sophomore Claire Grover, who currently ranks 7th in the Pac-12 with a best time of 1:00.70.

First year head coach Jordan Wolfrum and her staff have hit breaststroke/IM recruits hard in her short time leading the program. In the class of 2020, they’re bringing in Sam Baron (1:02.4 breaststroker/1:58.8 IMer) and Canadian Bailey Herbert (1:09.1 meters breaststroker/2:16.0 meter IMer); while in the class of 2021 they’ve received commitments from Eva Carlson (1:00.4 breaststroker/2:03.3 IMer) and Ana Jih-Schiff (1:02.3 breaststroker/2:01 IMer). This could be a good strategy for them to begin climbing up the conference strategy given the Pac-12’s lack of depth in the breaststroke races over the last few years (relative to other events).
