CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois men’s & women’s swimming teams swept both Western Illinois and Butler. The men beat WIU 180.50-83.50, the women won 178-80.00 against WIU and 140.00-126.00 against Butler.

The men’s unit had a strong showing all throughout the meet. The men had 11 first-place finishes though out the meet. Scott House won the 50 free, 100 free, and was apart of the 200 free relay team that won. For the senior Chris Dixon could not have had a better meet for his final meet at the Ray Padovan pool. Dixon won the 1000 free with a time of 10:05.95 which is a seasons best time.

The Panthers swept multiple events including the, 50 breast with Race Archibald in first, Jarod Farrow in second, and Dixon is third. In the 100 back, Crouse placed first with a time of 55.03, Ethan Dolan placed second with a time of 55.53, and Alex Adams placed third with a time of 56.40. In the 400 IM, Joel Talley placed first, Austin Kueck placed second, and Greg Hampel placed third.

Other first-place finishers were, Alex Adams won the 200 free with a time of 1:49.02 which is a season-best. Andrew Crouse won the 50 back with Forrest Baumgartner right behind him. In the 100 fly Jaylan Butler won with a time of 54.71, Jaylan Butler placed first in the 50 fly with a time of 24.03.

Other top three finishers were, Hampel in the 1000 free, Dolan in the 200 free, Jake Gleeson in the 100 fly, Baumgartner in the 50 free, and Griffin Lewis in the 100 free. In the 100 breast Farrow placed second and Archibald placed third, and in the 500 free Kueck placed second and Dixon placed third.

For the relays the men placed first in the 200 free relay and in the second in the 400 medley relay.

On the women’s side, they had a total of eight first-place finishes on the day. The Panthers were led by Sabrina Chu as she won the 200 free with a time of 1:58.85 and the 500 free with a time of 5:22.84, she also was a part of the 200 free relay team that won.

In the 100 free the seniors put their own flair on the race as they all swim together for the last time in the Ray Padovan pool. Julia Martin placed first, Karleen Gernady was second, Rachel Manderscheid was third, Gloria Gonzales was fourth, and Jaelyn was fifth.

Other first-place finishers were, Ashley Glesing in the 50 breast with a time of 32.31, Lily Schafer in the 50 free, Sarah Lohman in the 100 free, and Matti Friesz in the 100 back.

Other top three finishers were, Ziv Marco in the 1000 free, Katy Black in the 50 breast and the 100 fly, Schafer in the 100 back, Jessica Harris in the 500 free, Lohman in the 50 fly, and Harris in the 400 IM.

For the relays, the women placed first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.72 and won the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:09.48.

The EIU men’s & women’s swimming teams will return to action Wednesday (Feb. 19) through Saturday (Feb. 22) for the Summit League Conference Championships.

CHARLESTON, Ill. — The Western Illinois swimming and diving teams combined for five victories in competition at Eastern Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 1). The Leatherneck women’s squad also faced off against Butler.

The event got off to a great start when the 400-medley relay team (Brennan BladelConnor OwensGarret Kemp and Adam Peterson) edged Eastern Illinois with a final time of 3:34.46.

Bladel displayed his endurance by winning the 500-free (4:56.56). Fellow senior Connor Owens was victorious in the 100-breast with a season-best time of 57.77 and narrowly took second in the 200-free (1:49.16).

Peterson tied for first in the 50-fly (24.03) and Garret Kemp almost brought home an individual win in the 50-free (21.51) but ultimately placed second.

On the Western Illinois women’s swimming side, senior Miranda Mathus logged third in the 100-free (55.92) and 200-free (1:53.93).

Olivia Leslie squeaked past her teammate, Allison Spielman, in the 50-back touching the wall is 28.62 seconds. In the 50-breast, Skyler Robinson finished in third place at 33.77.

The Leathernecks hit the road again to Iowa for a dual meet on Friday (Feb. 7) beginning at 6 p.m.

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Butler swim team competed at Eastern Illinois over the weekend. They won head-to-head vs. Western Illinois (194-67), but were edged by the Panthers (140-126). The meet was the final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championships which land on Wednesday, Feb. 26 this year.

Annah Van Gheem and Colleen Carey dominated the 1000-Yard Freestyle to earn first and second place in the event. Van Gheem posted a time of 11:07.85 and Carey followed at 11:15.27.

The ‘Dawgs had the top two finishers in the 100-Yard Butterfly as well. Hannah Pugh won the race with a time of 1:00.55. Claire Mastrandrea took second (1:02.27).

The 100-Yard Breaststroke was unique with Abigail Nebot and Natalie Rohweder posting the exact same time (1:12.23) to share first place.

Additional first place finishes went to Van Gheem in the 50-Yard Butterfly (27.52) and to Allie Carmichael in the 400-Yard IM (4:50.69).

Relay events featured a pair of second place results for BU. Madison Himler, Van Gheem, Abigail Roberts and Isabel Heitmeyer teamed up in the 200-Yard Freestyle (1:43.02). Hannah Pugh, Rohweder, Van Gheem and Issy Petersen hit the pool in the 400-Yard Medley Relay (4:10.10).

Heitmeyer and Himler were top BU finishers in the 50-Yard Freestyle. Heitmeyer placed second at 25.75. Himler was close behind in third (26.06). Heitmeyer also placed second in the 100-Yard Free (55.35).

Other Bulldogs to swim well at Eastern Illinois included Cami McGradyAlexa Vota, Sofie Camarillo, and Emma Harris. McGrady took second in the 200-Yard Free (2:01.21) and Vota landed in second in the 50-Yard Breaststroke (33.50). Camarillo earned second place in the 100-Yard Backstroke (1:05.33) and Harris placed second in the 500-Yard Free (5:25.32).
