Annika Bruhn participated in her first international final in an individual event tonight in Glasgow and placed 4th in the women’s 200m freestyle. Bruhn led the field from the start until the 150m mark ahead of Federica Pellegrini and Femke Hemskerk. Bruhn faded during the last 50 metres, with the gold medal eventually going to Great Britain’s Freya Anderson.
Annika Bruhn improved the 9-year old German record which was set by Silke Lippok in 2010 with a time of 1:53,96.

Silke Lippok won the silver medal with the former German record at the 2010 SC European Championships. Lippok retired from competitive swimming at the age of 21 because she suffered from recurring knee problems and other illnesses.
Annika Bruhn is a two-time Olympian. The 27-year-old represented Germany at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. She competed in the 4x200m freestyle relay in 2012 and 2016. In 2016 in Rio, she also placed 20th with a time of 1:58,48 (LC). Bruhn trains in Germany with the Neckarsulmer Sportunion. Her coach is the current German Teamcoach, Hannes Vitense. Bruhn also takes part in the ISL for the DC Tridents.
