Quah Jing Wen Produces 200 Fly Singaporean National Record At World Cup

2019 FINA WORLD CUP #3 – SINGAPORE

While competing on day 1 of the 2019 FINA World Cup stop in Singapore, host country swimmer Quah Jing Wen produced a new national record in the women’s 200m fly.

After establishing herself as the 3rd seeded swimmer out of the heats with a morning effort of 2:12.03, 18-year-old Quah put up a much quicker mark of 2:10.26 to take the bronze in tonight’s 200m fly final. Winning the race was Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu, followed by her countrymate Zsuzsanna Jakabos, with the pair clocking times of 2:07.07 and 2:07.48, respectively.

As for Quah, her time surpassed her own previous Singpaoren national record in the women’s 2fly by over a second, crushing her own lifetime best entering the meet of 2:11.38 set at the FINA World cup stop in Tokyo.

Splits for Quah tonight include 1:02.39/1:07.87 for her new record of 2:10.26 to grab the bronze for Singapore. She also holds the national record in the women’s 200m IM with her PB of 2:16.30 from earlier this year.

Quah competed at this year’s World Championships in Gwangju, Korea, where she clocked 1:01.49 in the 100m fly to finish 37th, while also producing a time of 2:12.48 in this 2fly to place 21st. This new record would have garnered a 14th place finish after the semi-finals had Quah swum it in Gwangju.
