Day 3 of the Greensboro Futures Championship saw swimmers compete in the 200 fly, 50 free, 200 breast, 100 back, and 400 free. 18-Year-Old Ashley Worden of Marlins of Raleigh clipped her personal best time to win the women’s 200 fly. Worden clocked a 2:14.57, winning the event by well over a second, and taking half a second off her previous best of 2:15.13. With that swim, Worden came in just under the 2020 Olympic Trials cut of 2:14.59.
Avon Community Swim Team’s Elliot Cooper took over 4 seconds off his personal best ti win the men’s 200 fly. Cooper finished in 2:03.11, well under his best time coming into the meet, which stood at 2:07.34. 13-Year-Old Gabrielle Vanbrunt (Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team) won the women’s 50 free in 26.12. That race was a significant drop from her previous best of 26.54, which she had swum about 2 weeks ago. At just 13, that ranks Vanbrunt 24th all-time for 13-14 girls.
Spencer Jyawook, a 17-year-old out of Nashville Aquatic Club, took the men’s 50 free in 23.43, narrowly beating out Josiah Morales (23.51). Jyawook eclipsed his personal best of 23.51 with that swim. Genevieve Joyce, a 17-year-old out of Marlins of Raleigh, and 13-year-old Gracie Weyant (Sarasota Sharks) battled it out in the women’s 200 breast. Joyce finished first, clocking a 2:33.72 to Weyant’s 2:33.87. Joyce took the early lead, splitting 35.05/38.85 on the first half for a 1:13.90, while Weyant was just off that, splitting 35.21/38.81 for a 1:14.02. Joyce held on better in the 3rd 50, splitting 39.62 to Weyant’s 40.00, but Weyant battled it back on the last 50, 39.85 to 40.20. 13-Year-Old Weyant now ranks 44th all-time for 13-14 girls.
Auburn alum Bryar Long won the men’s 200 breast, touching in 2:18.65. Long’s personal best is 2:17.80 from 2016, and his performance last night was his fastest since then. Anna Freed (Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team) won the women’s 100 back in a new personal best of 1:02.71. The swim marked a big drop for Freed, 17, who came into the meet with a personal best of 1:03.92. Towson University’s Erek Nelson won the men’s 100 back convincingly, touching in 56.33. His finals time was just slightly off his prelims time of 56.22, which was a personal best for Nelson. He came into the meet with a best time of 57.55.
Adrianna Cera, a 17-year-old from Marlins of Raleigh, won the women’s 400 free in 4:20.65. The swim was a drop of nearly 2 seconds, as her personal best was 4:22.31 heading into the meet. 15-Year-Old Braeden Haughey (Tac Titans) took over 3 seconds off his personal best of 3:59.69 to win the men’s 400 free. Haughey clocked a 3:56.42, not only winning the event by over 4 seconds, but clearing the 2020 Olympic Trials cut as well. The OT cut in the 400 free is 3:57.29.
