Buckeyes Get Verbal Commitment from OHSAA Record-holder Hannah Bach

Brecksville, Ohio’s Hannah Bach has elected to remain in-state for her collegiate swimming career with a verbal commitment to The Ohio State University’s class of 2023. The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School junior is the Ohio high school record-holder in the 100 breast, having won the event with 1:00.75 at the 2018 OHSAA Swimming & Diving Division I State Tournament.

A two-sport athlete (track & field and swimming), Bach has had a meteoric rise to the top during her high school career. As a freshman she finished 10th in the 100 breast at the state meet; two years later she owned the record. She dropped about 2 seconds in the 100 breast each year, and her 50 breast splits on the Bees’ medley relays improved dramatically, too:

Junior season Sophomore season Freshman season
100 breast 1:00.75 (1st place, state record) 1:02.51 (5th place) 1:04.97 (10th place)
50 breast split in medley relay 27.47 28.17 29.64

Bach swims year-round with the club team Cleveland Swim Institute (CSI). She took 6th in the 50 breast and 100 breast at the 2018 NCSA Spring Championship. Earlier in March she won the 50 breast and was runner-up in the 100 breast at the Lake Erie LSC Senior Short Course Championships. She has gone best times in the 50/100 free, 50/100/200 breast and 50/100 fly this spring.

“When I swam a lifetime best of 1:12 in the 100 breast at our mid-season taper meet freshman year, I never thought I’d be in this position!  Although I’m a two time state qualifier in track, finishing as high as 5th in Division I in the 300m hurdles, I’m now looking forward to swimming year-round for the first time. I’m so excited to share my verbal commitment to The Ohio State University. I chose Ohio State because I immediately felt at home when I met the girls and I know the coaches are dedicated to helping me reach my full potential. Go Bucks!”

Top SCY times:

  • 50 breast: 27.39
  • 100 breast: 1:00.75
  • 200 breast: 2:19.87
  • 50 free: 23.93

She’s going to be one to look out for! 1:00 not swimming full time and year round is amazing!

So is this quote incorrect: “Bach swims year-round with the club team Cleveland Swim Institute (CSI)”?

Sounds like she was splitting time / taking time off for track. I gather she is giving up track to dedicate year round to swimming.

We worked with Hannah. It will be fun to see how fast she can go with Bill.
