IUPUI Men, Denver Women Top Summit League Standings After Day 1

Day One Results

University of Denver men and women swept the four relays on Day One of the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships, but IUPUI cleaned up in men’s 3-meter diving. The Jaguars thus took control of the men’s meet, while the Pioneers held on to the lead in the women’s meet.

The Denver women opened the score with a solid 1:39.25 in the 200 medley relay from Morgan McCormick, Amanda Sanders, Heidi Bradley, and Zoe Huddleston. Touching second in 1:42.11 were Alexis Bullard, Tori Kroon, Maranda Buha, and Madison Taylor of IUPUI. South Dakota State’s Sam Prasher, Kayce Smith, Kristin Erf, and Abby Zenner went 1:43.25 for third.

The Pioneer men dipped under the Summit League record when they won the 200 medley relay with 1:27.16. Kyle Robrock (21.68), Tim Cottam (23.98), Patrick Guillory (21.82), and Ray Bornman (19.68) contributed to the victory. IUPUI’s Aaron Brysch, Landan Mintch, Jonathan Stoller, and Lennart Kuester (1:28.82) took the second spot on the podium, while Western Illinois (Sam Almhiemid, JD Furr, Chris Neaveill, and Tyler Neaveill) ,out-touched South Dakota State, 1:30.07 to 1:30.12, for third.

In the 800 free relay, Denver again topped the field in both the women’s and men’s races. Huddleston (1:46.31 leadoff) teamed with Avery Niemann (1:49.90), Annelyse Tullier (1:48.86), and Grace Sommerville (1:48.17) for a 7:13.24 win. South Dakota State (Julia Bodnaruk, Katya Vakshteyn, Richelle Bruyckere, and Hadlie Overhue) eked out second place over Nebraska-Omaha (Cassie Jahn, Kylie Vermeire, Morgan Stepp, and Natalie Renshaw), 7:31.24 to 7:31.35.

Denver took down its second meet record in the men’s 800 free relay with Bornman (1:35.69), Robrock (1:35.57), Luke Williams (1:35.69), and Dylan Bunch (1:36.63), who combined for 6:23.58. SD State was second with Garth Wadsworth, Matthew Carpenter, Chris Rumrill, and Ben Bolinske (6:40.98). IUPUI was just a couple of tenths back (6:41.29), featuring Benjamin Levart, Trenton Wolfe, Jayden Parrett, and Jared Allen.

The men’s 3-meter diving also took place on Wednesday evening. IUPUI and SD State were omnipresent in the A final, taking seven of the eight spots. Krisztian Somhegyi of IUPUI won the event with 354.70 points, ahead of Parker Brown of SDSU (284.80) and Mitch Mastey of IUPUI (279.85).
