CIncinatti dominated in a dual meet against IUPUI over the weekend, winning 26 of 28 events. Jacqueline Keire set 2 pool records in the win, including the 50 free (23.07) and 500 free (4:51.78).

CINCINNATI — With the University of Cincinnati swimming and diving alumni in the house, the Bearcats secured a sweep of IUPUI on Friday night at Keating Aquatics Center, highlighted by a pair of pool records by junior Jacqueline Keire.
Cincinnati won 26 of 28 swimming events on the evening, while also winning two of the diving events.
// KEIRE SETS TWO POOL RECORDS
Keire (Burlington, Ont./Nelson) continued her fast-paced start to her junior year, sweeping the pair of individual events in which she competed and running her individual winning streak to 10 events.
Keire first touched in the 50 free in 23.07, besting her own pool record of 23.24. She followed that up by breaking Maria Oberg’s pool record in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:51.78. Oberg, who was in attendance at the meet following her induction into the UC James P. Kelly Athletics Hall of Fame on Thursday night, had the previous best of 4:55.04 from a January 2001 meet.

Chris Bready (Missouri City, Texas/Lawrence E. Elkins), like Keire a reigning American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, also won both of his individual events. Bready also nearly took down a pool record, winning the 1,000 freestyle in 9:14.81, just four-tenths of a second off Honza Vitazka’s pool record of 9:41.41.
Bready completed his sweep for the day by winning the 500 freestyle with a mark of 4:33.31.

Lindsey Niehaus (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), Dee Sopapong (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) and Ryan DePietro (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) also each won a pair of events. Niehaus collected victories in the 100 freestyle (57.27) and the 100 backstroke (53.77). Sopapong earned wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.22) and 200 individual medley (2:09.16). DePietro win the 200 fly with a mark of 1:51.59 before winning the 200 individual medley in 1:53.89.

The Bearcats were led by Ellen Posch (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) on the board. The sophomore secured first-place points on both the one-meter and three-meter. Her one-meter score of 248.20 won by 20 points over IUPUI’s Bailey Wills, while her three-meter mark of 256.40 cleared Wills by 20.6 points.

After swimming three meets in the last week, the Bearcats are off until Friday, Nov. 13, when they travel to East Lansing, Michigan, to take on Michigan State and Bowling Green (women only). That serves as the final dual meet of 2015, with only the Miami Invitational (Dec. 4-6) remaining on the schedule before 2016.

CINCINNATI – In their final road competition before returning to the renovated Natatorium for the upcoming House of Champions meet, the Jags men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were swept by Cincinnati on Friday night (Oct. 30) in IUPUI’s first visit to the Keating Aquatic Center.Freshman diver Krisztian Somhegyi headlined the meet for IUPUI as he took top results on the boards winning the 1 and 3-meter competitions.
His teammates Erik Romer finished second on 1-meter and Mitch Mastey took third off both boards. Junior Bailey Wills (second on both boards) and Melissa Berger (third on both boards) also had a strong competition for the dive team.
“We had a good meet tonight,” said IUPUI’s head diving coach Eric Barnes. “Great preparation behind the boards and the divers were great supporting each other. We need to keep doing our thing and focus on bringing the group together in practice over the next few weeks to keep getting better as the upcoming competition will feature four members of the national team from the last world championship.”
The swimmers posted quality times facing some of their best competition of the season.Jon Stoller took one of the Jags two winning heats as he touched the wall first in the 200 breast in 2:06.78. Senior captain Lennart Kuester took his 100 free heat in 46:13.
Their swims were shortly followed by two additional excellent efforts; first from freshmanBen Levart, who dropped four seconds from his first meet for the Jags at Notre Dame on October 9th to race a 500 free in 4:36.03, posting the 7th fastest time in school history. Meanwhile junior Maranda Buha was just clipped in her 100 butterfly, missing out on a winning heat by .11.
Freshman Allison Cicero (1:57.70) and Kuester (1:42.57 placing 2nd) led the Jags to a good start in their 200 freestyle races while another freshman, Adam Wait, just missed a top 10 school time with his 1:55.40 in the 200 butterfly.
The Jags top relay highlight was the final event of the night as Kuester, Aaron Brysch,Trenton Wolfe and Jared Allen matched the Bearcats stroke for stroke throughout the 400 free relay. Cincinnati got the better at the end touching the wall just .12 ahead of IUPUI to take the race.
“We’ve continued to work the team hard in training and we were up against a really good team in Cincinnati tonight,” said Head Coach Matt Bos. “Despite the hard practices there were some good individual swims but we need to get better. We will be glad to get back to the main competition pool in the Nat for some practices here shortly and get ready for the House of Champions meet.”
All-American Jackie Keire from Cincinnati set two pool records for the Bearcats in the 50 free with a time of 23.07 and lowering the 500 free time by almost four seconds with 4:51.78.
As noted, the Jags will take to home water for the first time this season on November 20-22 for the House of Champions invite following the recent $20 million renovation to the facility. IUPUI will host Indiana University (Dive Only), University of Kentucky (Dive Only), UW-Green Bay, University of Evansville, University of Western Illinois, University of Indianapolis, and Centre College over the three days. Preliminary heats will begin at 10:30am and finals at 6pm each day. Diving action will be contested just once each day with the final schedule yet to be determined. All session tickets and single session tickets will be sold each day at the Natatorium box office inside the main hallway.
