Australian Open Water Shadow Team Announced

Swimming Australia is pleased to announce a number of additions to the Australian Open Water Shadow team for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The 2016 Australian Open Water Championships in Mooloolaba, February 12 to 14, will now give members of the extended shadow team the opportunity to be nominated for selection to race at the second Olympic qualifier in Setubal, Portugal on 11 June 2016.

The highest placed eligible male and highest placed eligible female in the men’s and women’s Australian Open 10km events will get the chance to race in Portugal for a spot on the Australian Olympic team.

Following on from their results at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia, both Simon Huitenga and Chelsea Gubecka have already gained automatic selection to compete at the second Olympic qualifier in Portugal and the remainder of the team will be looking to join them.

To ensure that we send the strongest and best prepared prospects to the second Olympic Qualifier in Setubal, Portugal the full Shadow Team now includes, Simon Huitenga, Chelsea Gubecka, George O’Brien, Kareena Lee, Jarrod Poort, Mel Gorman, Sam Sheppard, Jess Walker and Rhys Mainstone.
