Backstroke and butterflier Henry Hollinshead of the YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team and Green Hope High School has verbally committed to swim for Georgetown University in the 2016-2017 season.

Last year, Hollinshead made it into the consolation finals of two individual events at YMCA Short Course National Championships. He took twelfth in the 200 back with a 1:49.29 and fifteenth in the 200 back with a 50.80. Hollinshead also teamed up with the YOTA swim team relay of Brayden Lauffer, Seth Maslowski, and Alex Carson to take eighth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:22.99. Hollinshead swam backstroke, splitting 51.01.

Hollinshead also competed in North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A State Championships, nearly swimming the same time in his 100 fly and 100 back. He swam his 100 fly in 52.11, taking twelfth, and his 100 back in 52.10, taking ninth. The Green Hope High School 200 free relay was the state champion in 1:25.02; Hollinshead teamed up with Maslowski, Carson, and Chris Daniels. His 400 free relay (with teammates John Healy, Carson, and Johnathan Roach) came in second with a 3:09.22. Here are his best times:

  • 100 BK: 50.62
  • 200 BK: 1:49.29
  • 100 FL: 52.01
  • 200 FL: 1:53.38
  • 200 IM: 1:55.70
  • 400 IM: 4:06.73

The Georgetown team, under the leadership of coach Jamie Holder, finished second at Big East Championships last season. Holder will have his work cut out for him in choosing Hollinshead’s main events. Hollinshead would have scored major points at conference last year: second in the 100 back, third in the 200 back, and fourth in the 200 fly.

Hollinshead will also prove an asset to the Georgetown ‘A’ medley relays. Last year, the Georgetown backstroker, Kurt Muehlheuser, (a senior this year) split a 51.11 in the final of the 400 medley.

“I’m very excited to join the Hoya family,” he said. “On my recruiting trip I absolutely loved the overall atmosphere of the Georgetown team and school. I’d like to thank my parents, my brother Stephen, and my current and former coaches Chad Onken, Jonathan Kaplan, Nick Walkotten, Jack Roney, and Brooks Ensor for making me the swimmer and person I am today.”
