The 11th edition of the FINA World Women’s Junior Water Polo Championships came to an end in Volos (GRE) on Sunday August 23, with team USA winning the tournament (13-10) in a tough final against Spain. The U.S remained unbeaten during the entire competition in Greece.

Spain grabbed a well-deserved silver medal as the team was very consistent throughout the whole Championships. Russia, who grabbed the third place, beating Canada 15-8, proved that it can be a very competitive team, showing a steady progress since the last edition, where the Russian players took the fourth place.

Host country Greece secured the tournament’s fifth place after defeating Italy (12-7), a slight disappointment for the Hellenic team who claimed the bronze in 2013.

Hungary captured the seventh place in Volos after defeating Brazil 11-9. The game was unpredictable for two periods with two very close teams and tight phases towards the middle of the game.

The final rankings of the 11th FINA World Women’s Junior Water Polo Championships is as follows:
1. USA
2. Spain
3. Russia
4. Canada
5. Greece
6. Italy
7. Hungary
8. Brazil
9. Australia
10. New Zealand

At the previous edition of this event, in 2013, the three squads on the podium were: USA (gold), Spain (silver) and Greece (bronze).
