Daniel Dias, Susanna Riberio Lead Brazil’s Squad Bound for 2015 IPC World Championships

Team Brazil has announced its roster of 23 swimmers set to compete at the 2015 IPC World Championships in Glasgow this summer.  The competition, which runs from July 13-19th, is expected to have 550 global athletes converge, representing over 60 countries in total.

The Brazilian squad will be led by Daniel Dias, the 26-year old world record-holding S5 athlete who has already won a total of 15 medals across two Olympic Games.  Dias, who was awarded the Laureus Award for Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability both in 2009 and 2012, is set up to battle Great Britan’s Andrew Mullen in the men’s 50m backstroke; an event in which Dias holds the world record.  Mullen finished just fourth at the 2012 Paralympic Games, but has since been creeping up in the rankings, winning the event at last year’s IPC European Championships.

Andre Brasil will also be representing Brazil in Glasgow, attempting to defend three individual S10 titles in the men’s 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle events, while teammate Susanna Riberio will try to fend off attempts to dethrone her as the 100m breaststroke SB6 world champion in the 2015 edition of the championships.

Will this squad need a coach? Though having coached an Olympian to two golds for the USA probably leads me to be over qualified for this position, I am still curious about what the maximum salary you could offer someone with my credentials is. I need you to tell me every detail about the remuneration package very soon, because I have several offers on the table right now. If you need more proof that I am more than qualified for this position, I once was the coach for 14 high school teams at once, and I am currently writing a book about coaching swimmers! You see, I have a lot to bring to the table on the topic, because I… Read more »

My guess is 750k and use of the company jet…..

I would jump on one of those “several offers” right away!

Maybe this is a joke I do not understand?

Ok, so I figured Mr. Winters just had a big ego….but now I’m wondering if he might have really lost his mind.

You once coached a U.S. Olympian…which makes you overqualified to coach a team full of athletes that won 11 gold medals at the 2013 World Championships??????

Why’s that, Mr. Winters. Because they’re a para-team, that makes you overqualified????

Just going to go out on a limb here, but I don’t expect this team to be calling you any time soon. LOL!

Well, obviously he is overqualified.. coaching a breaststroke gives you overqualification to coach probably 2 of the best paralympic swimmers of all time and one of them that holds the at least one current WR on each stroke (Free, Fly, Back, breast and IM) totalling 10 WR… yeah, these swimmers are “not good enough” and “need help” of this guy..
