Illinois State Champion, High School Senior, Kelly McNamara Gives Verbal to Iowa Hawkeyes

While the high school class of 2016 has already broken its ice, there are still some noteworthy swimmers in the class of 2015 who will sign their National Letters of Intent this spring after the NCAA Championships.

Among those swimmers is Illinois High School State Champion Kelly McNamara, who on Saturday verbally committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

McNamara swims for Addison Trail High School and the Westmont Swim Club outside of Chicago.

McNamara’s best event is the 100 fly, where she swam a lifetime best of 54.68 to take her first state title in the fall.

That time was about the same as she went as a junior at the same state meet.

So far this season, Iowa’s fastest 100 butterflier is freshman Tereysa Lehnertz, who was a 55.3 in December over 100 yards. That will give her a chance to immediately take over a spot on the team’s medley relays. She’ll also compete for spots on the sprint free relays.
