The Commodores fêted their seniors but Arkansas celebrated a dual meet victory on Saturday at the Tracy Caulkins Competition Pool in Nashville.
The Razorback began with a 1:44.03 win in the 200 medley relay thanks to Anna Mayfield (26.40), Nikki Daniels (29.17), Susanna White (24.92), and Nina Drolc (23.54). Vanderbilt (Madeline Hunt, Kara Lucenti, Breanna Sapienza, and Hannah Martin) finished second in 1:46.47.
Aiden Lister won the 1000 for Arkansas, touching in 10:14.92 ahead of teammate Chloe Hannam (10:19.31). The lone Commodore in the event, Kathryn Babbin, was third (10:20.73).
The Razorbacks’ Mayfield won both the 200 free and 200 back, going 1:49.90 in the former and 1:58.80 in the latter. Her teammate Chelsea Tatlow was runner-up in the 200 back with 2:01.96, then won two events of her own. Tatlow took the 100 back in 56.29, just ahead of Vanderbilt’s Martin (57.13). She also finished first in the 200 IM with 2:04.81; second in that race was the Commodores’ Lucenti in 2:06.94. Martin, meanwhile, was first to the wall in the 100 free with 51.94. She and Arkansas’ Maddie Monroe turned together at the 50 wall but Martin had the better second half and won by .20.
Arkansas’ Daniels (1:04.48) emerged victorious in a tight 100 breast race against Vanderbilt teammates Kathryn Coughlin (1:04.76) and Lucenti (1:05.95). In perhaps the most thrilling finish of the meet, Jessie Garrison won the 200 fly for the Razorbacks, out-touching Vanderbilt’s Rachel Koch at the very end, 2:04.03 to 2:04.11. Koch’s teammate Kayla Moran (2:05.03) placed third.
The 100 fly went to Vanderbilt’s Sapienza in 55.47. Olivia Weekley of Arkansas was next with 56.73.
White of Arkansas won the 50 free with 23.68. The Commodores’ Summer Brown was runner-up in 24.36. Brown had another second-place finish: a heartbreaker of a loss to Rachel Stoehr of Arkansas over the last 50 yards of the 500 free. Stoehr, who finished third in the 200 free, edged Brown, 4:58.56 to 4:58.99.
In the 200 breast, yet another Razorback made it to the top rung of the podium. Mary Soderberg went 2:21.54 for the win, while teammate Julia Banach swam 2:23.01 in exhibition, and Vanderbilt’s Elly Faulkner took home the second-place points with a 2:23.54 finish.
Arkansas closed out the meet with a win in the 200 free relay. Drolc (24.01), Monroe (23.71), Mayfield (23.80), and Susanna White (23.57) combined for 1:35.09. Vanderbilt’s Moran (24.92), Caroline Thomas (23.93), Brenda Cha (23.72), and Martin (23.69) placed second.
