The second day of the 2014 CeraVe Invitational at Rutgers University was once again dominated by the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, who won the day’s first four events.
That includes the opening 400 IM that 16-year old Sierra Schmidt won in 4:51.96.
That led a finish of four swimmers under the standard to qualify for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. Schmidt swam a best time to win, as did her NBAC teammate, South Korean swimmer Easop Lee, in 4:52.12.
Maggie Aroesty of the Long Island Aquatic Club took 3rd in 4:54.24, which is her first qualification for the 2016 Trials; as was Molly Kowal’s trials cut of 4:54.70.
The women’s 400 free, the last women’s event of the night, had the same NBAC 1-2 finishers: Schmidt in 4:15.11 and Lee in 4:16.25.
In between came a 3rd win of the meet for NBAC’s Cole Buese in the 400 IM with a 4:28.31. Max Miranda took 2nd in 4:30.32, which included a big kick over the last 50 meters.
Just for clarity, Lee wouldn’t rep the US in competition. South Korea?
