MEET NOTES: Texas A&M hosts Art Adamson Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M men’s and women’s Swimming & Diving will host the 2014 Art Adamson Invitational Thursday through Saturday at the Student Recreation Natatorium on the A&M campus.  Annually one of the nation’s fastest collegiate swim meets, last year’s Adamson produced nearly 300 NCAA “A” or “B” qualifying cuts.

 

2014 Art Adamson Field: In addition to the Aggies, the men’s and women’s programs from SMU, LSU, TCU, Arizona State, Stanford and Grand Canyon and the Boise State women’s team will be competing at Art Adamson Invitational. The field also contains some teams with only divers entered.

Schedule of Events: This is a prelims/finals meet with the women in the odd event numbers and the men in the even event numbers.

7/8: 50 Freestyle

9/10: Diving

11/12: 400 Medley Relay

 

Friday:

13/14: 200 Medley Relay

15/16: 400 IM

17/18: 100 Butterfly

19/20: 200 Freestyle

21/22: 100 Breaststroke

23/24: 100 Backstroke

25/26: Diving

27/28: 800 Freestyle Relay

 

Saturday:

29/30: Platform Diving

31/32: 1,650 Freestyle

33/34: 200 Backstroke

35/36: 100 Freestyle

37/38: 200 Breaststroke

39/40: 200 Butterfly

41/42: 400 Freestyle Relay

 

Free Swimming & Diving: Admission to the 2014 Art Adamson Invitational is free.

Who’s Art Adamson?: A legend in the world of swimming and water polo, Art Adamson served as the Aggies’ swimming coach from 1935 to 1970 and still stands as the longest tenured coach in Texas A&M athletics history. He was also instrumental in the development of the College Station Parks and Recreation department in the 1940s. He is a member of the USA Water Polo Association Hall of Fame and the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame, as well as the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame.
