Highlighting night 1 of competition in Westmont was Dare Rose who battled it out with Tyler Bardak in the 200 butterfly. Rose earned the win in a 2:00.13, touching ahead of Bardak’s 2:00.52.
Rose has been as fast as a 1:55.64 this season from April’s Bergen Swim Festival. His lifetime best is a 1:55.25 from semifinals at 2024 US Olympic Trials. Bardak dropped over half a second off his previous lifetime best of a 2:01.11. Bardak will transfer from Division II McKendree to join South Carolina this fall.
The men’s 100 breast was another close race as Andrew Seifert touched in a 1:02.66 ahead of Garrett Clasen‘s 1:02.81. Seifert is a Best of the Rest ranked recruit for this fall and is committed to NAIA Dordt University. He dropped from his previous best of a 1:03.13 from last summer’s Minneapolis Sectionals.
After swimming a lifetime best 1:50.52 200 free last month, 16 year old Kai Joyner was just off that as he won the 200 free in a 1:51.23, touching ahead of Luke Vatev‘s 1:51.66. Vatev, a Stanford commit, has a lifetime best 1:50.82.
Dropping over two seconds in his win in the 1500 free was Parker Chan who touched in a 16:02.99. Chan’s previous best was a 16:05.97 from last summer.
The women’s side was highlighted by Grace Swoboda who won the 100 breast in a 1:08.71. Swoboda swims collegiately for Iowa State and entered the summer with a lifetime best 1:10.99. She swam a 1:10.66 at the start of June and now drops another two seconds off of that.
15 year old Molly Mahoney dropped three seconds off her best time in the 200 fly to earn the win in a 2:16.88. She entered the day with a lifetime best 2:19.81 from June and entered the summer with a best time of a 2:21.34 that she swam to win 13-14 Zones last summer.
Abby Carlson was about a second off her lifetime best in the 200 free, touching in a 2:00.50. She has been as fast as a 1:59.55. Izzy Enz was 2nd in a 2:01.91.
16 year old Joy Cheng swam to a 8:54.23 800 free, dropping six seconds from her previous best of a 9:00.73 she swam at the Mel Zajac Jr Invitational last month.
