Montana State Champion Dylon Flikkema to Compete for Arizona Starting Fall 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Dylon Flikkema, a five-time Montana high school state champion, has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Arizona beginning in the fall of 2027.

“I am extremely blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Arizona to continue my academic and athletic career. I want to thank my parents, friends, and coaches, especially Coach Matt, Coach Sara, and Coach Kyle, for their continued support throughout my swimming journey. Without them I would not be who or where I am today! I would also like to give a huge thanks to Coach Ben, Pete, and Lauren along with the rest of the Arizona staff for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. BEAR DOWN!!”

A junior at Belgrade High School in Montana, Flikkema began competing for the school’s swimming and diving team during her sophomore year. She also currently trains year-round with Bozeman Barracudas Swim Club, where she primarily specializes in free, back and IM but is adept at all stroke disciplines.

Flikkema made it to the Montana High School Association state competition two years in a row. The 2025 iteration of the meet saw her bring home the championship title in both the 100 back (55.93) and 200 IM (2:06.99), setting then-best times in each event. At the 2026 MHSA State Championships, Flikkema picked up three more state titles. She won the 100 back (54.50) and 200 IM (2:07.11) and was a part of the winning 200 free relay team, which she anchored in 23.01.

At the 2025 Winter Junior Championship – West in December, Flikkema posted a series of top performances. She placed 15th in the 100 back in 55.33 after setting a lifetime best time of 54.09 during prelims, and she turned in personal best times in both the 200 back (2:01.03) and 200 IM (2:03.66). She also contested the 100 free (52.32).

Flikkema recently competed at the Western Zone Senior Championships in March, where she turned in another series of strong swims. She won the 50 back (25.76), 100 back (55.08), 200 back (2:03.24), 100 breast (1:05.22 – PB) and 200 IM (2:03.72). She also took the runner-up spot in the 200 free (1:51.94 – PB) and placed 4th in the 50 free (23.52 – PB).

Best Times SCY

  • 100 back – 54.09
  • 200 back – 2:01.93
  • 200 IM – 2:03.66
  • 50 free – 23.52
  • 100 free – 51.88
  • 200 free – 1:51.94

A Division I program, Arizona competes in the Big 12 Conference, with the women’s team taking the runner-up spot at the conference championships in February. The Wildcats sent four athletes on to compete at the NCAA Division I Women’s Championships, where they finished 29th overall.

Based on the results from the 2026 Big 12 Conference Championships, Flikkema would have landed in the ‘B’ final in the 100 back and been just outside the cutoff for a second swim in several of her other top events, giving her a chance to score some points right from the start.

On the team itself, Flikkema would have ranked 6th in the 100 back and 200 back this past season, bringing added depth to an already strong backstroke group. With another full season to go before she joins the Wildcats, it remains to be seen exactly how the roster will shake out.

Outside of the pool, Flikkema has spent the past few years playing volleyball for Belgrade.

In regards to why she chose Arizona, Flikkema said “The team atmosphere was very special and Tucson is such a beautiful area to be in.”

Currently set to join Flikkema in Tucson are Kendall Jollands (free/fly/back) and Lexi Tippie (free/fly), both of whom should make for strong training partners over their four years together.
