Robert Badea Earns 200 Fly Gold On Day Three Of Romanian Championships

2026 ROMANIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day three of the 2026 Romanian National Championships unfolded from Otopeni with swimmers vying for European Championships-worthy results to etch their name onto the nation’s roster for Paris.

Robert Badea staked his claim on the men’s 200m fly event, producing a winning effort of 1:57.25 to take the decisive victory.

Splitting 26.19/30.41 (56.60)/30.14/30.51, Badea marked the sole swimmer of the field to clear the 2:01 barrier. His time checked in as a new lifetime best, pairing with the 18-year-old’s new Romanian record of 1:58.86 in the 200m IM established on night one of this competition.

Danis Volontir produced a mark of 27.75 to take the men’s 50m breaststroke as the sole swimmer of the field to dip under the 28-second threshold.

Next to the wall was Patrick Dinu, who notched 28.09, followed by Emil Dancanet‘s effort of 38.15.

Finally, Andri Proca topped the men’s 400m free in a time of 3:51.05, narrowly holding off Luca Marinescu.

Marinescu was relegated to the runner-up status in 3:51.79, although, as consolation, he put up a new Romanian Age Record for 16-year-olds en route to silver.

Eric Andres rounded out the podium in 3:52.81.

On the women’s side, Daria Asaftei reaped gold in the 50m breast in 32.56, as Diana Stiger got the job done in the 400m free in 4:16.34, beating the pack by well over 5 seconds.

Eliza Diamandescu also got on the board, courtesy of the 2:16.72 she logged en route to gold in the women’s 200m fly event.
