Koa Stotz & Molly Young Wrangle Up Wins At Aussie Age Championships Day Three

2026 Australian Age Championships

The records continued to fall on day three of the thrilling 2026 Australian Age Championships, with the nation’s rising stars showing their impressive form in the hopes of making the roster for this year’s Junior Pan Pacific Championships.

A trio of Australian Age Records went down on the boys’ side, giving us a glimpse into the talent bubbling beneath the surface, ready to break out this summer.

We reported how 18-year-old Ollie Moclair is following in World Record holder Cameron McEvoy‘s footsteps, putting up a massive personal best of 21.73 in the heats of the boys’ 50m freestyle. He was slightly slower in the final, logging 21.89 for gold, but both efforts represented his first-ever foray under the 22-second barrier.

Versatile 16-year-old Leny Grigor made his presence known big-time in the boys’ 400m IM, establishing a new career-fastest mark of 4:16.15. That demolished Olympic medalist and world champion Mitch Larkin‘s former Aussie Age Record of 4:20.48 from 16 years ago.

Finally, in the boys’ 50m breaststroke final for 16-year-olds, Christopher Montana entered entirely new territory, dropping his own Aussie Age Record down to a massive 27.84.

Although she didn’t break a record this evening, 13-year-old Molly Young of Carlile proved her tenacity en route to claiming gold in her age group’s 1500m freestyle.

She charged to the wall in a mighty time of 17:09.16, barely holding off 14-year-old teammate Sarah Sim of Singapore, who touched a hair later in 17:09.26.

Young’s performance overtook her former lifetime best, a time of 17:11.72, notched just last month at the New South Wales State Championships. She now becomes Australia’s 9th-fastest 13-year-old girl of all time.

Somerset’s Koa Stotz made some noise in the boys’ 50m breaststroke for 15-year-olds, reaching the wall first in a time of 28.32.

That established a new Aussie Age Record, surpassing the 28.467 Montana previously held.

Cohen Tarrant snagged silver in 29.34 and Xavier Eagle bagged the bronze in 29.43.

Amelie Smith of Rocky City collected her third gold of the meet, taking the 17-year-old girls’ 200m fly event.

Smith stopped the clock at 2:13.41, within striking distance of her best-ever outing of 2:12.34 nabbed at last year’s edition of this competition.

Let’s not forget that this is outdoors. In indoors the kids wouldn’t have so many lane rope issues and could be faster
