Age group swimmers from across Florida came together for two days of high-energy racing at the Sunshine State Showcase, in a unique setup that combined top performers from both of the state’s LSCs.
Swimmers qualified for the Showcase based on their recent performances at their respective Age Group Championships. The top six finishers from the FGC Age Group Champs, along with the top six combined finishers from Florida Swimming’s two FLAGs meets, earned eligibility for the event.
A draft-style selection then mixed athletes from both LSCs into four competitive teams: Gators, Barracudas, Sharks and Stingrays, which can all be found lurking in Florida’s waters. The combined format fueled fast and furious racing while fostering friendships with fellow swimmers from across the state. The weekend combined camaraderie with competition, offering icebreakers, team-building activities, group photos, spirited cheers, and a pizza party for all participants.
Racing ran from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon, closing with awards, accolades, and proof that age group talent runs deep in the Sunshine State.

I loved this article! I found it so excitng to see such a large number of young and younger swimmers, both winners and not, swim for their selected “fish” and celebrate their wins and support their losses. I love the built in humor Ms. Rosenthat uses, which makes her articles so much fun to read! Please keep it up!
This was always my kids favorite event when they were age group swimmers. It was competitive but still fun, not as intense as some other competitions. It also gave them a chance to be teammates with the kids they competed against all year.
Interesting format with some fast kids. Goes to show swims can still be fast without having to be cutthroat and high stakes all the time.
Fun meeting! Fast times! Thanks to all the coaches and officials.
