Kyrgyz swimmer Denis Petrashov will be joining the Louisville Cardinals very shortly for the spring 2022 semester. Petrashov is an Kyrgyzstani record-holder, and a 2-time Olympian. He’ll add some serious breaststroke depth to an already great breaststroke group. Petrashov is a 2-time Asian Games finalist, and a Youth Olympics Silver medalist.

Here are Denis Petrashov‘s LCM lifetime bests in the breaststroke events, along with the SCY conversions (in parenthesis):
- LCM 100 Breast – 59.87 (51.17)
- LCM 200 Breast – 2:10.07 (1:51.69)
His SCY conversion of 51.17 in the 100 breast would have placed him 2nd at the ACC Championships last year, behind only Louisville teammate Evgenii Somov (51.03). His 1:51.69 200 conversion would have put him 2nd at ACCs as well. Somov won the title in 1:51.26. At NCAAs, his 100 breast would have been 4th last year, while the 200 would have been 5th. Adding Petrashov to Somov gives Louisville the potential to have a pair of NCAA A finalists in both breast events this season.
Louisville also has some nice breaststroke depth behind the new duo. Senior Daniel Sos has a personal best of 1:55.67 in the 200 breast. Sophomore Aidan Kreiley posted times of 53.64 and 1:55.95 in the breast events last year, and freshman Luke Shourds has already swam a lifetime best of 54.12 in the 100 this season.
The Cardinals are looking to defend their ACC title this season. They also posted a 5th-place finish at NCAAs last year. After keeping the majority of last year’s core together for this season, the addition of another potential powerhouse breaststroker for this spring is huge for Louisville.
