Welcome to the final session of the 2026 Canadian Open Championships! There have been a number of meet records set over the course of the meet, including three in the prelims session, and we could be looking at more tonight.

Danielle Dorris, the S7 Para record holder in the event, swam 35.08 to rack up a monster 987 Para Points and earn the event win. She was a little off her record time of 32.99 that she has swam twice, once in 2024 and once in 2021.
Jordan Tucker, an S4 athlete, swam 58.40 to touch 4th but pick up 663 Para Points, giving her the silver medal over 15-year-old Natalie Clarke, who won the bronze in 48.81 and 600 points.
Men’s Para 50 Butterfly (S2-S7)

S4 athlete Etienne Boutin-Cote finished 3rd in the heat, but his swim of 50.26 earned 876 points and gave him the gold medal by almost 100 points over S4 and S5 record holder Sebastian Massabie, who swam 36.90.
Massabie, who is competing as an S5 now holds the Canadian Para record at 35.84, which he swam in June of 2025.
Tyson Jacob swam 44.34 in the S6 class to pick up 503 points and the bronze medal

Taylor Ruck won her first event of the session, swimming 57.71 to dominate the women’s 100 fly. Ruck was the only swimmer in the event under 1:00 with Matea Gigovic finishing 2nd in 1:00.27. She took two seconds off her lifetime best of 59.61 that she swam in February of this year and moves up to 8th all-time for Canadians.
Gigovic, who is 17, finished 2nd in 1:00.27, a little more than a second add from the 58.97 she swam in December of 2025.
Rowyn Biffart, who is also 17, won the bronze medal in 1:01.03, a three tenth drop from the 1:01.48 mark she set at last summer’s Canadian Trials

Michigan’s Ole Eidam broke the meet record in prelims, and in finals, he swam 52.48 to stop the clock just eight hundredths off his prelims time of 52.39. Eidam’s lifetime best in the event stands at 52.03 from July of 2025 at the World University Games.
Eidam was out in 23.97, seven tenths of Finlay Knox, who finished 2nd in 52.62. Knox was out in 24.62 before coming home in 28.00, half-a-second faster than Eidam’s 28.51, moving Knox into silver medal position. Knox’s best is 51.42 from may of 2024
Eric Ginzburg was 3rd in 53.35, splitting 24.19 on the opening 50 and 29.16 on the closing 50.
Women’s 200 Backstroke

In the first meet record of the session, Ingrid Wilm swam 2:11.92 in the women’s 200 meter backstroke to earn the gold medal and come in just three hundredths under the 2:11.95 record Delia Lloyd set back in 2024.
Wilm was out strong, splitting 31.50 to turn in 3rd behind Bridget Burton (31.35) and Olive Rogers (31.43). By the 100 mark, she had taken over the lead, splitting 1:04.54 to turn more than half-a-second ahead of the rest of the heat with Ella Jansen moving into 2nd at 1:05.03.
Wilm was 33.97/33.41 on her final two 50s to touch in 2:11.92, beating Jansen’s 2:13.04 by just over a second. Wilm’s lifetime best is 2:10.11 from the 2025 World Championships. Jansen dropped a little more than a second from her previous best of 2:14.53 that hse swam in April of 2022.
Rogers was 3rd in 2:13.78, almost a second drop from the 2:14.54 best time she swam last month.

The men’s 200 backstroke went to Michigan’s Inbar Danziger in 2:00.11. Danziger took the lead from the beginning, splitting 28.03 on the opening 50 be be one of just three swimmers under 29 seconds.
He followed that up with a 29.92 split to be the only swimmer in the field under 30. He was 30.33/31.83 on his final 100 to swim 2:00.11 for the gold, beating Blake Tierney‘s 2:00.65 by just over half-a-second. Danziger, who competes for Israel, has a lifetime best of 1:57.82 from the World Championships, while Tierney has been 1:55.03.
Parker Deshayes was 2:02.62 for the bronze, just out touching Jacques Harrison‘s 2:02.84. Deshayes’ best is 2:02.15 from June of 2025.

SB7 Class swimmer Tess Routliffe earned the top score in the women’s para 100 breaststroke final, swimming 1:34.57 to earn 959 points. She added a bit from her SB7 record time of 1:30.47 that she set in May of 2024.
17-year-old Ali Diehl finished 2nd in 1:23.25, racking up 870 points in the SB9 class.
In 3rd was bronze medalist Shelby Newkirk, who set a new Canadian Para SB5 record of 1:59.49 for 813 points. She dropped more than half-a-second from the 2:00.12 mark she set in February, dipping under 2:00 for the first time.

Cameron Chambers (KISU) — DQ
Jagdev Gil and James Leroux are both part of the SB9 class, and they were locked in a fierce battle for the gold medal, touching just five hundredths apart. Ultimately, Gill came out on top in 1:14.84 to score 863 points while Leroux swam 1:14.88 to score 862 points.
Leroux was out in the lead, splitting 24.18 on the first 50 to sit a little more than a tent ahead of Gill’s 24.31. Gill came home strong, though, splitting 40.53 to pass Leroux’s 40.70 and move into gold medal position. Leroux holds the Canadian Para record at 1:08.56 from 2019.
Guillaume Jacob Cayer, a 16-year-old, finished 3rd in 1:19.22, also in the SB9 class. He scored 778 points for this swim.

The women’s 200 IM was one of the more exciting events in the session. Ella Jansen came out on top, swimming 2:12.57 after trailing by more than half-a-second at the 100 meter mark.
Michigan’s Bella Sims jumped to an early lead, splitting 28.43/32.58 on the opening 100 to turn in 1:01.01, holding a lead over Jansen. The Canadian Jansen was actually out a bit faster than Sims, splitting 27.98 on the first 50, but fell back to split 33.61 on the backstroke, turning in 1:01.59.
Jansen took over the lead on the breaststroke, splitting 40.40 to pass Sims, who split 41.55. On the freestyle, Jansen was 30.58, three tenths ahead of Sims, who was 30.88. Jansen touched in 2:12.57, almost a second ahead of Sims, who swam 2:13.44 for the silver.
This swim was a new personal best for Jansen, dropping from the 2:12.97 she swam in April of 2024. Sims has a personal best of 2:12.15 from July of 2023.
Rowynn Biffart, 17, was 3rd in 2:17.12 after splitting 29.01/34.58/40.94/32.53.

The men’s 400 IM was not as close as the women’s and Finlay Knox dominated the event from the first 50, winning the gold medal in 2:02.12.
Knox was out in 25.62 on the fly to grab the lead as the only sub 26-second swimmer in the field. He was 31.24/36.24/29.02 on the final three 50s to touch in 2:02.12, winning by more than three seconds over 17-year-old Owen Ekk. Knox’s best time is 1:56.07 from May of 2024 and Ekk’s best is 2:02.22 from June of 2025.
Laon Kim came in just behind Ekk, splitting 2:05.66. Ekk was 27.15/32.54/36.73/29.22 and Kim split 26.19/32.06/38.12/29.29 for the bronze.
Women’s Para 200 Freestyle (S2-S5, S14)

Emma Van Dyk, S14, won the women’s Para 200 freestyle in both time and in points. She swam 2:27.54 to score 813 points, about 90 more than 2nd place finisher Aly Van Wyck-Smart.
Van Wyck Smart, S3, swam 4:52.64 to score 725 points, coming in just over four seconds off her S3 Canadian record time of 4:48.05 from June of 2025.
S14 swimmer Kate Smith was 3rd in 2:47.15, which scored 624 total points.
Men’s Para 200 Freestyle (S1-S5, S14)

S14 swimmer Nicholas Bennett swam the top 200 freestyle time of 1:55.73 to earn the gold medal with 985 total points. He was just over two seconds off his S14 Canadian record of 1:53.1 from the 2024 Paralympics.
Cameron Chambers, who is also an S14 swimmer, finished 2nd in 2:11.73, bringing in 807 points.
Sebastian Massabie swam 2:56.99 to set a new Canadian S5 record time with 768 points. He took a little more than two seconds off his former record time of 2:58.96 from 2025.

The women’s 100 breaststroke went to Sophie Angus in 1:08.95 more than a second ahead of the rest of the field. Angus split 32.09/36.86 to be the fastest swimmer on both splits. Her lifetime best is 1:06.66 from the World Championships in February of 2024.
Marley Monsen touched 2nd in 1:10.23, splitting 33.20/37.03 to chase down Isabelle Angheloni on the final 50 for the silver medal. Angheloni was 32.74/39.10 to finish 3rd in 1:11.84.
Monsen’s lifetime best is 1:09.72 from July of 2025 and Angheloni’s best is 1:11.69 from March.

Oliver Dawson picked up the 2nd meet record of the session and his 2nd meet record of the day, swimming 1:00.20 in the men’s 200 breaststroke for the gold medal.
Dawson took two tenths off his former record time of 1:00.42 from prelims and will move up to the 4th fastest Canadian in history in the event, jumping Mathieu Bois’s 1:00.23 from July of 2009. Only two Canadian men have been under 1:00 including senior record holder Scott Dickens’ 59.85 and Richard Funk, who swam 59.89 in 2017.
Apollo Hess finished 2nd in 1:02.26, splitting 28.32/33.94. His lifetime best is 1:00.99 from May of 2024.
Arthur Galiano touched 3rd in 1:03.68, dropping two tenths from the 1:03.83 he swam in March of 2026.

The young swimmers dominated the women’s distance events this weekend, and the 400 freestyle was no different. Delphine Piatera-Mercier, a 17-year-old, swam the top time in the women’s 400 freestyle of 4:17.98.
She came in about four seconds ahead of 15-year-old Elleigh Wise, who swam 4:21.71 for 2nd. Piatera-Mercier led the whole race, splitting 29.64 on the opening 50 to take the lead. From there, she was 2:07.09/2:10.89 for her 200 splits. This was a three second drop for Piatera-Mercier, who came in at 4:20.03 from March.
Elleigh Wise swam 4:21.71 for 2nd, two seconds off her lifetime best 4:19.59 from July of 2025.
Abigail McLeod, 16, finished 3rd in 4:24.10, adding from her lifetime best 4:17.73 that she swam in June of last year.

In the men’s 400 freestyle, Zachary Parise swam the top time of 3:57.91, beating Aiden Kirk‘s 3:58.24 for 2nd by about three tenths.
Parise was also in the lead through most of the race, splitting 57.02 on his opening 100 to turn a little more than four tenths ahead of Aiden Kirk‘s 57.48. He lost a little gorund on the lead form there, and Kirk actually briefly took over the lead at the 300 mark, turning in 2:58.98 to sit three hundredths ahead of Parise’s 2:59.01.
Parise moved back into the lead at the 350 mark, splitting 29.69/29.21 on his final two 50s to come in just ahead of Kirk’s 30.14/29.12.
Parise’s lifetime best stands at 3:54.65 from July of 2024 and Kirk’s best is 3:53.68 from the World Juniors last summer.
Jaques Harrison finished 3rd in 3:59.32, about a second off his lifetime best 3:58.00 from July of 2025.
Women’s Para 50 Freestyle (S1-S14)

In the final women’s Para event of the meet, S6 athlete Shelby Newkirk swam 35.09 to score 938 points and win the gold medal. She came in just 10 points ahead of S10 athlete Arianna Hunsicker, who swam 29.36 to finish 2nd with 928 points.
Tianna Asala, another S10 swimmer, scored 920 points to touch in 29.52, locking up the bronze medal ahead of Mary Jibb‘s 30.28 and 885, also in S10.

Jagdev Gill, an S10 athlete swam 25.74 in the men’s 50 freestyle to set the fastest time and score the most points.
His time scored 896 points, 15 more than Hunter Helberg‘s 28.80, which scored 871 in the S11 category for the silver medal.
S10 swimmer Ken Stroud earned the bronze with 855 points from his 2.48 swim.

Taylor Ruck set another meet record in her 2nd win of the day and final event of the meet. She swam 24.78 to win the 50 free by about a second over Ranumi Eashwarage‘s 25.70 in 2nd.

Eashwarage swam 25.70 to finish three tenths ahead of Emilianna Gonzalez‘s 26.04 in 3rd. Eashwarage, three tenths off her lifetime best 25.44 from March. Gonzalez’s swim was a new personal best, dropping from the 26.12 she swam in July of 2025.

Ole Eidam won his final event of the meet and 2nd event of the session, swimming 22.67 to take the top time in the 50 freestyle by just seven hundredths. Eidam added a bit from his lifetime best of 21.97 that he swam in September of 2023.
Yuri Kisil finished 2nd, in 22.74, a seven tenth add from the 22.01 he swam in May of 2024.
Eric Ginzburg was the final swimmer in the ehat under 23 seconds, touching in 22.90 to add just a tenth from the 22.81 he swam at this meet last year.
