Day 1 Prelims Heat Sheet
It’s a relatively small field in Sacramento as the Pro Swim Series kicks off in the capital of California this morning, and it has been made even smaller with a large number of scratches, including several high-profile scratches from both US and International Olympians.
2024 Paris Olympian Claire Weinstein has pulled out of her lone event of the morning, the 200 free, where she was the top seed. The Sandpipers of Nevada swimmer, completed her first year at the University of California, winning the NCAA title in the 500 free. Weinstein was entered in the meet with a time of 1:54.67, more than a second clear of Torri Huske, who know holds two top seeds on the morning as she also has the fastest entry time in 200 IM, an event which saw the #2 seed Letitia Sim and fellow Paris Olympian scratch.
Weinstein and Sim were not the lone top 8 seeds to scratch as Joe Polyak, seeded 4th in the 200 IM, and Teya Nikolova, seeded 2nd in the 50 breaststroke also withdrew. So, too did Canadian Olympian Taylor Ruck. Ruck was on the psych sheet in the 100 back as the 2nd seed, but has scratched out of the event, instead concentrating on the 200 free, where after Weinstein’s withdrawal she is the 9th seed. Fellow Canadian Finlay Knox, too has pared down his morning schedule, cutting the 100 back, where he was the 11th seed, and instead will concentrate on the 200 IM, where he is the top seed.
In addition to missing Weinstein, fans will be disappointed to hear that Luca Urlando has scratched his lone event of the morning, the 200 free where he was the 4th seed. Urlando, the reigning 200 fly World Champion has not competed since the 2026 SEC Championships, as he withdrew from NCAAs citing a minor injury.

This is looking more like a Sectionals than a Pro series
Keep saying they need to get rid of this one entirely. Glad it’s not on next years schedule
Surprised to see Weinstein out of the 200
Did Weinstein scratch out of the meet entirely? MeetMobile doesn’t have any entries listed for her but other people seem to have their entries for future days in MeetMobile.
Same with Urlando
Nooooooo all I wanted was an Urlando 2 Free
Me too. I think he was 1:46 in HS. Since then he’s dropped over 2 seconds in the 200 fly, so you’d think his 200 Free would still be very competitive.
Is Urlando at this meet at all?
Sounds like this meet is the least of his concerns (allegedly!!!!)
Will he be a last-minute addition to the EGs on Sunday?
Here we go with all the scratches. 🤣
