2026 NCAA Relay Swimmer Alan Vergine Transferring From Pitt To NC State

2026 NCAA relay swimmer Alan Vergine has announced he will join the NC State men for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. Vergine just finished his freshman season at Pitt and is originally from Italy.

Vergine entered the transfer portal days after it was announced that head coach Chase Kreitler was resigning from his position, effective immediately.

“I’m extremely happy to announce that I’ll continue my academic and athletic career at NC State University with @packswimdive .

This year was amazing. I learned a lot and started loving swimming like never before in my life.

I started seeing my confidence rebuilding piece by piece, and the vision I had last year when I was back home was progressively becoming reality. Day by day I started becoming more aware.

Thank God for opening my eyes and letting me dream.
I’m so grateful for what life is about.

Thanks to all the good people I met in Pittsburgh, and a huge thanks to my coaches Chase, Michael, Kaersten, Gideon, Matt, and Marian. You will always be part of my journey.

The best is (still) yet to come”

Vergine helped the men’s team to its highest finish in 73 years at the 2026 NCAA Championships as he swam on three of the team’s relays. Vergine swam on the men’s 200 free, 400 free, and 800 free relays at NCAAs. He split a 19.18 on their 200 free relay that finished 21st, a 42.17 on their 400 free relay that finished 10th, and a 1:32.65 on their 800 free relay that finished 14th.

Despite swimming on the three freestyle relays at 2026 NCAAs, Vergine opted for the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 IM at the 2026 ACC Championships where he scored 21 individual points, the 3rd highest on Pitt’s roster. He was highlighted by a 11th place finish in the 200 fly (1:42.24) and a 20th place finish in the 100 fly (45.66).

Vergine’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 100 fly: 45.66
  • 200 fly: 1:42.03
  • 200 IM: 1:46.80
  • 50 free: 20.46
  • 100 free: 43.25

The NC State men finished 3rd at the 2026 ACC Championships and went on to finish 6th at the 2026 NCAA Championships. Quintin McCarty led the way at NCAAs with 37 individual points.

Vergine’s 21 individual points at ACCs would have gotten NC State closer to 2nd place Stanford who scored 1076 points. He helps fill big losses in the 100 fly group as graduate students Aiden Hayes captured the ACC title in the 100 fly with a 44.07 and Arsenio Bustos was 5th in a 44.82. The team did not score any points in the 200 fly, so Vergine is a big boost there.

Vergine is not the only swimmer from Pitt to announce their transfer to NC State as Sydney Gring will join the women’s program for the fall. Gring scored 14 individual points at 2026 NCAAs.

Have any of the Pitt NCAA women transfer? It seems most of the men have jumped ship!

Oops wrote that too soon and then saw that Sydney is also going to NCST! Katie better hire someone soon or there won’t be any studs left to coach!
