2026 Men’s NCAA Championships: Florida Puts Two Into 1-Meter Diving ‘A’ Final

2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships

Entering Day 2 of the Men’s NCAA Championships, Florida and Indiana sat in a tie for the lead in the overall standings with 86 points apiece. Texas, the defending champions and pre-meet favorites, were lurking back in 3rd.

Among those three teams, one, Indiana, is regarded as a diving powerhouse, while Texas is consistently good on the boards. Then there’s Florida, which has produced scoring divers in recent years, such as Leonardo Garcia and Skip Donald, but is never thought to be a school that benefits from diving in the team race.

That might be changing this year.

During the prelims of the 1-meter event on Thursday, the Gators put two men into the ‘A’ final, with freshman Jesus Agundez Mora qualifying in 5th and junior Conor Gesing advancing in 7th.

That assures Florida a minimum of 23 diving points tonight, while Texas had three divers compete but will only score one point after Jacob Jones placed 16th. Additionally, Nicholas Harris, who was 10th last year, sits last in the standings with just 34.50 points, indicating he pulled out after his first dive.

Indiana, which scored 29 points in this event last year, with Quinn Henninger winning the title and Carson Tyler topping the consolation final, will end up with zero after Joshua Sollenberger was their top finisher in 17th.

The Hoosier diver with the most scoring potential is Max Weinrich, who gets better as the boards get higher. He’ll be a scoring threat in the 3-meter and platform events, but finished out of the points today in 22nd.

Leading the prelims this morning was USC senior Moritz Wesemann, who is the top returner from last year’s final, where he finished 3rd, while fellow 2025 ‘A’ finalists Elias PetersenMax Fowler and Luke Sitz also advanced in the top eight for the second straight year.

Florida’s Gesing, who advanced 7th overall today, was 14th in the event last season, while Tennessee’s Bennett Greene, who was 13th in 2025, also qualified for the ‘A’ final in 4th.

Two first-years divers cracked the top eight, with Florida’s Agundez Mora joined by Miami (FL)’s Matteo Santoro.

I feel like it would be a good idea for the NCAA to find a commentator who knows a little more about diving. I feel like the commentators do a good job, credit to them, but I think having a perspective of a former diver/diving coach would help the audience know a little more about what’s really going on.

Florida aiming to make this a race. Could get exciting, worth noting the seeded points assume Texas holds their seed from the 2 FR Relay, but they will likely be near top 4 after their morning time.
