After an exciting women’s championships last week, the men’s edition of the 2026 Big Ten Championships kicks off tonight at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin, with a brief opening session featuring just the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay.
Indiana enters as the top seed in the 200 medley relay (1:21.99), the sixth-fastest time in the country this season, by more than a second over Penn State (1:23.05) and Michigan (1:23.48). In the 800 free relay, Ohio State leads the way (6:12.23), ranked 10th nationally, ahead of USC (6:12.57) and Indiana (6:13.01).
Indiana is the defending champion in the medley relay, while USC topped perhaps the most exciting 800 free relay in meet history last year, with the 32-lap race ultimately decided by just 0.54 seconds across the top four teams. USC (6:10.85) grabbed the win ahead of Ohio State, Michigan, and Indiana, with all four teams finishing more than three body lengths clear of the rest of the field.
The Swimulator paints a clear picture that the Indiana Hoosiers are the heavy favorites, on paper, to win their fifth consecutive and 32nd-ever conference title. They claimed last year’s title by a 448-point margin, the largest in Big Ten history, and are favored to win this year’s title by an even larger 477 points. Based on seeds, Indiana is projected to score 1,414.5 points, with Michigan (937.5), Ohio State (897.5), USC (786.5), Wisconsin (761.5), and Northwestern (703) the only other teams seeded above 550 points.
Stay tuned for live updates below.

The Michigan Wolverines upset defending champion Indiana to win the 200 medley relay, with a tenth of a second separating the two teams at the finish.
The Hoosiers got out to an early lead with Miroslav Knedla clocking 20.76 to Jack Wilkening‘s 20.98, and slightly extended it through the breaststroke leg with Travis Gulledge throwing down a 22.63 to Luka Mladenovic‘s 22.72, with Indiana hitting the halfway mark at 43.39 to Michigan’s 43.70.
The lead wouldn’t last, however. Michigan’s Tyler Ray scorched a 19.27 split on the butterfly leg, nearly a full second faster than Indiana’s Owen McDonald‘s 20.12, giving the Wolverines a 0.54-second lead heading into the freestyle leg, 1:02.97 to 1:03.51.
Indiana’s Mikkel Lee did all he could on the anchor, splitting 18.58 to Michigan’s Ole Eldam’s 19.02, but it was too big of a gap to close. Michigan touched in 1:21.99, a new season-best that also ties Indiana’s season-best and ranks as the sixth-quickest time in the NCAA this season.
Northwestern’s 1:22.95 from the first heat held up for third, swum by Stuart Seymour (20.91), Joshua Staples (22.80), Aaron Baltaytis (20.25), and Oliver Kos (18.99). Their time smashed their season best of 1:24.65 from the Texas Invite in November, and moves them from #36 to equal 16th in the country heading into the NCAA Championships next month.
Penn State came third in the final heat behind Indiana and Michigan, clocking 1:23.01, but were disqualified after their freestyler left early (-0.04).

Ohio State was too much for the field to handle over the final 400 yards, with Jordi Vilchez (1:31.84) and Tristan Jankovics (1:31.41) closing out a 6:06.64, the second-fastest in the NCAA this season, behind only Texas’ 6:06.24 from last week’s SEC Championships.

Badgers seem to know how to handle buisness
And the ammount of drops already is insane
Such a impressive showing
Great first conference meets (so far) under Jack!
PSU not missing a beat from last week’s stellar performance! Way to go Hollie!
So it sounds like you’re NOT excited about a quarter second drop in the half-mile relay and a medley DQ? Shocked face.
Freshman Enzo Solitario massive 1:30 split! That gave them the lead! Give the kid a little love! Go Badgers!
Enzo is a good kid.
Heβs going to be massive over the next couple years, excited for the program
Is the meet being swum at the outdoor pool?
Purdue 4th kinda crazy
200 free relay tonight & not the medley.Michigan won. Btw
Probably not the right comment section to get that one wrong.
I think the names are wrong for the 2medley on the live results. Looks like they may have switched with the 800 fr relay names
They’re correct on meet mobile thankfully
