Several prominent age group performances stood out at the Florida Long Course Winter Invitational, among those was 14-year-old Jayden Tsai of LAKR Swim Club, clocking 2:06.26 in the 200 butterfly, moving him inside the top 40 all-time in the 13-14 national age group performers in the event, sitting at a tie for 39th with Zach Power’s 2021 performance.
That 200 fly placed him 2nd overall in the event, shaving 15 hundredths of a second off of his personal best from July of last summer of 2:06.41 at the Futures Championships in Ocala. He also finished 4th in the 200 IM in 2:09.94; that time still sits just over a second off his lifetime best of 2:08.74, which ranks him 37th all-time in the 13-14 national age group. He also set career bests in the 50 free (25.10), 50 breast (31.24), and the 50 fly (26.17).
Tsai’s teammate, 15-year-old Reef McMeeking, also had a very productive outing of his own, winning the 50 breast in a lifetime best 28.81, and finished 2nd in the 100 breast in 1:04.82, the 4th fastest time of his career. His fastest 100 breast came at the Futures Championships in Ocala in July in 1:03.50.
Cal commit Rylee Erisman went 3-for-3 on wins her events, touching first the 100 fly in 59.72, 200 IM in 2:15.68, and clocking her fastest ever 800 free in 8:54.31, destroying her previous best from January of 2023 of 9:13.61.
Other Notable Performances:
- Bolles’ Prakhanthi Rai, 16, clocked a number of lifetime bests on the meet, including a 2nd place finish in the 200 breast in 2:20.76, taking over two seconds off of his year and a half old best time of 22.78. He added a 3rd place finish in the 200 IM in 2:09.41, notching his first ever time under 2:11.
- Blue Dolphins’ Ian Heysen Ricci topped the men’s 200 breast in 2:18.51, well off his best from the World Junior Championships in August of 2:16.00. He did take 13 hundredths of a second off his 50 breast best from those World Junior Championships (29.53) in 29.40.
- Florida State commit Leah Chin picked up a win in the women’s 50 free, notching her fastest 50 ever in 25.90, half a second better than her best from December in 26.40.
