For those unfamiliar with swimming terminology, the concept of “Ups” and “Downs” is a good way to track which teams performed best in heats. During prelims, swimmers qualify for one of two finals: the top 8 finishers make the A final, while places 9 through 16 the B final. In finals, swimmers are locked into their respective final, meaning a swimmer in the B heat (spots 9-16) can only place as high as 9th or as low as 16th, even if they put up the fastest or slowest time of any heat in the final.
With that in mind, we’ll be tracking “Ups” and “Downs” after each prelims session. “Up” refers to swimmers and divers in the A finals, “Down” to B finalists. This prediction does not include diving or the 800 free relay

Women’s Ups Downs
The NYU women finished day two of the NCAA Championships in the lead by about 70 points over Emory. They had a strong morning, and they are projected to score 87 points in the finals session. There are three teams projected to score more than them, with Kenyon sitting at a whopping 100 points for the session.

They are projected to only score 12 points this session, while Chicago is projected to score 42, and Emory had the strongest morning to project to score 78
