Welcome to the CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships prelims session. Today’s events will determine lane assignments tomorrow’s finals session with the top nine swimmers moving on to the ‘A’ final and the next nine swimming the consolation final.
Last night, the meet kicked off with the diving finals, where Saint Mary’s junior Lucius Haddad won the boys’ event with a score of 556.60. He came in just under three points ahead of Palisades diver Jasper Nemeth, who scored 553.75 for the silver medal.
On the girls’ side, Mater Dei senior Gianna Kenrick scored 520.75 points to dominate the competition. She came in more than 30 points ahead of 2nd place diver, senior Hailey Tipton from Pioneer, who scored 487.00 points.

The Campolindo girls team swam the top time in the 200 medley relay of 1:43.40, touching just two tenths ahead of Davis High School’s 1:43.61 to earn the middle lane tomorrow.
Campolindo’s team consisted of Chloe Cooper (25.99), Elise Gratton (28.92), Emma Sloan (24.41), and Lucy Kao (24.08), who won the 3rd of four heats.
Davis High School won their heat with the team of Abby Cenizal (26.84), Irelyn Kennedy (29.48), Kiera Menna (24.56), and Josie Schneider (22.83).
Top seed, Sen Ramon Valley, qualified 5th after swimming 1:44.33 to add more than a second from their seed of 1:43.36.
Notable splits came from Allison Liu, who split 23.93 on the fly leg of Mountain View’s 5th place time, and Kelsey Zhang, who split 25.17 on the backstroke leg of Saratoga’s 9th finishing team.

The boys relay results got an update after we initially published them. The Valley Christian boys team came out on top of the results, stopping the clock in 1:29.47 to be the only team under 1:30 in the event.
Their relay consisted of Garic Shao (23.42), Jack Cameron (23.99), Robert White III (23.13) on the first three legs. The final leg of the relay saw Princeton commit Yury Kuzmenko split a massive 18.93 to bring the team home in first.
Santa Margarita took 2nd with Sam Zhou (23.06), Taylor Thongintra (25.27), Darren Nguyen (22.20), and Bennett Korner (19.91)

Mckinley Scobie from Foothill High School set the top time in the prelims of the 200 freestyle, touching in 1:47.90 to be the only swimmer under 1:48 in the event. The Army West Point commit for 2026. This swim was about a second off her lifetime best 1:46.53 from April, and half-a-second off the 1;47.15 she swam at the North Coast Section meet.
Sophomore Cameron Forbes, from Marin Academy, qualified 2nd in 1:48.30. This was just over a tenth off the lifetime best 1:48.16 she set at the North Coast Sections.
3rd qualifier Brianna Gough swam a new personal best time of 1:48.79 to finish 3rd overall, taking half-a-second off her previous best of 1;49.39 from last May.
It took a 1:50.05 to qualify for the Championship final this year, three tenths faster than the 1:50.32 that made the final last season.

The boys 200 freestyle saw the top three come in separated by just six tenths and the rest of the field more than a second back.
Northwood senior and USC commit Andrew Maksymowski swam the top time in the boys 200 freestyle of 1:35.29, just missing the 1:34.70 best time he swam last week at the Southern Section Championships.
Nathan Foucu, of the Kings Academy, swam 1:35.72 to finish 2nd overall, a little more than a second off the 1;34.31 best time he swam in February. He is headed to Stanford in the fall.
Point Loma junior Alex Pletcher swam 1:35.87 to come in just a tenth behind Foucu. This swim was seven tenths off his best of 1:35.14 from February.
In 2025, the final qualifier for the ‘A’ final was Northwood’s Michael Wang in 1:38.74. This year, Wang, now a sophomore, swam 1:37.17 to exactly tie his lifetime best from the end of March.

The girls 200 IM prelims saw three swimmers come in under 2 minutes. They were led by Saratoga’s Kelsey Zhang, who touched in 1:58.37 for the win. This time comes in a second over the lifetime best 1:57.09 from the Winter Junior Championships. She split 25.20/29.20/35.31/28.66.
La Mirada’s Kayla Han, who is committed to Indiana, swam 1:59.10 to qualify 2nd overall with her splits of 26.08/29.59/35.53/27.90. This swim was about four seconds off her 1:55.74 that she swam in November.
Archbishop Mitty’s Isabel Wu was 1:59.10 to finish 3rd in prelims, splitting 26.21/30.47/34.67/27.92. The junior Princeton commit added just over a tenth from her best of 1:58.98, which she swam in April.
It took a 2:01.83 to earn a spot in the Championship final, a second faster than the 9th place prelim time of 2:02.50 from last season.

Isaiah Silver, a Granada sophomore, swam 1:46.86 to win the boys 200 IM prelims by almost a second over Cerritos junior Anthony Dornoff‘s 1:47.70
Silver dropped three tenths from his previous best of 1:47.16 from last week. Dornoff’s swim was a second-and-a-half off his best of 1:46.24 from last week’s section meet.
There was a tie for 3rd between Monte Vista senior Jeremy Ting and Northgate senior Benjamin Nonaka, who both touched in 1:48.41.
Last year’s 9th place time was 1:50.59, about a second slower than the 1:49.79 it took to finish 9th this year.

Castro Valley junior Khanh Seaton swam 22.33 to set the top time in the girls 50 free preliminaries by more than half-a-second.
This swim was a little off Seaton’s best of 22.02, which she swam at the North Coast Section Championships. She is committed to Michigan for the class of 2027.
St. Ignatius freshman Charlie Terrell swam 22.89, adding three tenths form her best of 22.53, which she swam in March.
Woodbridge junior Isabella Parker, swam 22.94 to take 3rd, less than a tenth of fhte lifetime bes 22.87 she swam last week.
There are only three seniors in the final, with 6th qualifier Allison Liu coming in as the highest seeded senior with her 23.08.

West Park High School senior Jordan Ragland had a strong prelims swim to stop the clock in 19.37, earning the top seed for tomorrow’s event final over Yury Kuzmenko, who finished 2nd in 19.46.
Ragland, who is committed to Cal for the fall, added a tenth from the 19.28 he swam in December at the Winter Junior Championships.
Kuzmenko, a senior Princeton commit from Valley Christian, swam 19.46, coming in about a tenth off his best of 19.30 from the Central Coast Section Meet.
Tyler Porter, a senior from Bellarmine, finished 3rd in 19.80 to be the final swimmer under 20 seconds in the prelims.

The girls 100 butterfly prelims saw Valencia senior and 2026 Mizzou commit Tori Yamamura stop the clock in 52.39 to set the top time in the event, tying her lifetime best from the end of April.
Kelsey Zhang, a senior from Saratoga, picked up her 2nd runner-up finish of the morning, swimming 52.79 to add almost exactly a second from the 51.78 she swam in April of last year.
The 3rd qualifying spot went to Daniela Linares Danzos in 53.61, exactly tying her best time mark from last week’s North Coast Section Championships.

Rodriguez senior and Northwestern commit Brandon Ha was the only swimmer under 47 seconds in the boys 100 butterfly, touching in 46.90 to pick up the top seed for the final tomorrow. Ha’s lifetime best stands at 46.06 from last week.
Cosumnes Oaks junior Aidan Collins, who is committed to ASU for 2027, finished 2nd in 47.13, cutting three tenths off his best time of 46.79, also from last week.
Nate Yoon, a senior from Gunn who is committed to Cornell for the fall, set a personal best 47.29 to qualify 3rd, dropping four hundredths from the 47.32 he swam at last week’s Sectional meet.

The girls 100 freestyle final will feature the top seeds from the 200 and 50 freestyle events meeting in the middle. Khanh Seaton, the top seed in the girls’ 50 freestyle swam the top time in the 100 free of 49.12, a six tenth add from her best 48.58 that she swam last week.
This was a massive improvement from the 9th place spot she earned last season with her time of 50.84 in prelims.
Mckinley Scobie, from Foothill, was the only other swimmer under 50 seconds, touching in 49.31, a four tenth add from the 48.79 mark she swam last week. She swam the top time in the 200 freestyle earlier in the session
There was a tie for 3rd between Woodside sophomore Clara Young and Campolindo sophomore Stella Canoles, with both touching in 50.08. Young’s best stands at 49.77 from last week while Canoles has a best of 49.17 from the Winter Junior Championships.

The boys 100 freestyle saw three distinct groups in the prelims results. Nathan Foucu and Jordan Ragland were the only two swimmers under 43 seconds to earn the top two spots.
Foucu swam the top time of 42.76, touching just under a tenth ahead of Jordan Ragland‘s 42.85 in 2nd place. Foucu added just three hundredths from the 42.73 he swam in December at the Winter Junior Championships.
Ragland’s swim of 42.85 was four tenths off his 42.24, also from Winter Juniors in December.
After the top two, Tyler Porter and Brody Chandler both swam 43 second 100s. Porter swam 43.32 to drop a tenth from the 43.43 he swam at last week’s section meet. Chandler swam 43.81, seven tenths off his best of 43.12.
After Porter, the final five swimmers were within three tenths of each other.

In her 2nd event of the meet, Kayla Han dominated the 500 freestyle prelims, swimming 4:44.86 to pick up the top seed by more than six seconds. She was a little under eight seconds off her lifetime best of 4:36.88 from December of 2024.
Sonora sophomore Cassie Espinoza finished 2nd in 4:51.13, a full second drop from the 4:52.10 she swam at last week’s section meet.
Clovis North junior Rowyn Wilber swam 4:51.81 to qualify 3rd, a little more than two seconds added from her best 4:49.14 that she swam in April of 2025.

The most exciting part of the boys 500 freestyle is the fact that there will be a swim-off in the event for the last spot in the ‘A’ final.
A pair of juniors, Anthony Dornoff, from Cerritos, and Kaden Wong, from Foothill, both swam 4:26.61 to finish 9th in the prelims. The Championship Handbook states that they will not swim a 10 lane final, and they will have to determine the athlete who earns the spot in the final in the event of a tie.
Dornoff’s swim was a new personal best by half-a-second from the 4:28.17 he swam at the Winter Junior Championships. Wong added from his best of 4:24.88, which he swam at the 2024 Winter Juniors.
Andrew Maksymowski earned the top seed for Northwood in 4:24.13, seven tenths ahead of 2nd seed Kealan Tupper‘s 4:24.91. Maksymowski added from his best of 4:18.06, which he swam at the 2025 Winter Juniors, while Tupper added a little more than a second from the 4:23.40 he swam at last week’s section meet.

Torrey Pines swam 1:34.07 to earn the top seed for tomorrow’s finals by half-a-second over Clovis West’s 1:34.56. Torrey Pines’ team was made up of Scarlett Zhang (24.58), Anita Qian (23.83), Katerina Wiefeldt (23.39), and Aya Ferguson (22.27).
Clovis West had Kiera Menna (23.66), Irelyn Kennedy (23.98), Angelina Valle (24.53), Josie Schneider (23.07).
Mountain View qualified 3rd in 1:34.69 with the team of Erin Griffis (24.47), Karli Kicks (24.45), Karina Conover Hui (23.47), and Allison Liu (22.30).

The Santa Margarita boys team is going to be on State Record watch tomorrow. They sawm the top time in the 200 freestyle relay of 1:21.66, coming in a little more than a tenth ahead of Valley Christian and only three tenths back of Northgate’s 2023 State Record of 1:21.36.
The Santa Margarita team was made up of Bennett Korner (20.45), Adam Cuthbert (20.45), Carson Eich (20.29), and Tyler Lee (20.47).
Valley Christian had Micah Hernandez (21.34), Jack Cameron (20.16), Kaden Cochran (21.47), and Yury Kuzmenko (18.84).

Sophomore Daniela Linares Danzos from Sam Ramon Valley swam the top time in the 100 backstroke prelims of 53.15, adding about two tenths from her best time of 52.94, which she swam at the North Coast Section Championships last week.
Danzos touched half-a-second ahead of Newbury Park senior Megan Wang, who swam 53.65. Wang, who is committed to UCSD for the fall, added about a second from he 52.86 best time, which she swam at the Division 2 Southern Section Championships.
College Prep’s Bella Smith swam 54.37 to qualify 3rd, just head of Cameron Forbes from Marin Academy’s 54.41. Smith added three tenths form her best of 53.93, and Forbes added two tenths from her best of 54.24. Both were set last week.

Tim Wu, a senior from Dougherty Valley, grabbed the top seed in the boys 100 backstroke, touching in 47.52 to be the only swimmer under 48 seconds. The Cal commit was a little under four tenths off his lifetime best of 47.15 from November.
Kyle Tsuei, the top seed, swam 48.03 to qualify second. The Rowland junior added nearly a second from the 47.13 he swam at last weeks section meet. He is committed to Army West Point for the class of 2027.
Amador Valley junior Cade Vieler, who is committed to Princeton, swam 48.20, adding a second from his best time of 47.23 to qualify 3rd overall.

Calvary Chapel junior Bianca Nwaizu swam 1:00.39 to win the girls 100 breaststroke prelims, touching almost exactly a second ahead of the rest of the field. She added a little more than a second from the 59.05 she swam at the Winter Junior Championships in December.
Lynbrook junior Dylan Liu swam 1:01.38, exactly tying her lifetime best from April. She was also a second ahead of the swimmer behind her with Carlmont sophomore Louise Scherrer swimming 1:02.40 for 3rd.
Scherrer dropped a full second from the 1:03.20 she swam last week, beating junior Tayla Campanile (1:02.65)Â and freshman Ava Collins (1:02.69).
There are no seniors in the ‘A’ final.

The boys’ 100 breaststroke saw Davis High School senior Isaac Carsel drop more than half a second from his best time to earn the top seed in 52.89. The UNC commit came into the meet with a lifetime best of 53.44 from last May.
Archbishop Mitty junior Shareef Elaydi swam 53.62 to qualify 2nd, adding a second-and-a-half from the 52.01 mark he set last week.
Jack Cameron, a senior from the Valley Christian School, swam 53.86 to grab the 3rd seed, adding about a tenth from the 53.79 he swam last week.
Consumnes Oaks junior Aidan Collins finished 4th in 53.99 to be the final swimmer under 54 seconds. This was a slight add from his 53.68 personal best last week.

The Clovis West and the Campolindo girls teams were came in separated by just over a tenth in the final girls event of the session. Clovis West came out on top, touching in 3:26.18, just ahead of Campolindo’s 3:26.29.
Clovis West had Sophia Oka-Fedder, Zylah Radford, Hailey Marinovich, and Audrey Hill. They were about four tenths faster than the 3:26.55 they swam to qualify for the state meet.
The Campolindo team was the top seed coming in at 3:24.36. They added about two seconds from that mark with their team of Elise Gratson, Emma Sloan, Charlotte Smith, and Stella Canoles.
Torrey Pines finished 3rd in 3:26.53, a little more than two tenths behind Campolindo. Their team of Anita Qian, Carolyn Han, Katerina Wietfeldt, and Aya Ferguson added about a second from their seed of 3:25.45.

The boys 400 freestyle relay was even closer than the girls with the top three teams touching less than three tenths apart. Bellarmine College Prep’s team of Derek Shang, Brandon Pon, Miguel Rances, and Tyler Porter came out on top by just two hundredths, touching in 3:01.65. This swim was more than a second faster than their seed of 3:03.11.
Northwood finished 2nd in 3:01.67 with their team of Max Chen, Ben Liu, Andrew Maksymowski, and Eli Siniak. This was a three second add from their seed time of 2:58.81.
Amador Valley was the final team sub-3:02, and they stopped the clock in 3:01.90, just over two tenths behind Northwood. Their quartet of Cade Vieler, Kealan Tupper, Ryan Wong, and Toby Huang dropped four hundredths fromt heir seed time of 3:01.94
