Argentine breaststroker Macarena Ceballos had her best swim of the meet so far in the women’s 50 breaststroke semifinal.
Ceballos, who celebrated her 30th birthday in January, posted a 30.56 to break her own seven-year-old national record of 30.76. She placed 12th, the highest placement of any South American woman in Singapore. She also notably was the oldest woman in the semi-final, two months older than Finland’s Veera Kivirinta.
Earlier in the week, Ceballos competed in the longer breaststroke races. She placed 15th in the 200 breaststroke semi-final and just missed a second swim in the 100 at 17th place. Both of the swims marked small adds from her best times. In her 50, however, the Cordoba province native downed her first personal best in two years since breaking the 100 breaststroke national record at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka. She holds seven individual national records between short course and long course.
The overall South American in the 50 breast record stands at 30.28 by Brazilian Jhennifer Coneicao. This swim was the first national record for Argentina in Singapore.
Ceballos isn’t the only 30-something from South America who has made waves in the past few days. Kristel Kobrich, the oldest swimmer in the meet at 39 years of age, won her heat in the 800 free heats to place 18th overall with a time of 8:39.78. Earlier in the meet, Kobrich impressed by making the top 16 in the mile.
Day 5/6/7 South American national records:
- Macarena Ceballos (Argentina): 50 breast — 30.56
- Edhy Vargas (Chile): 200 back — 2:02.29
- Raekwon Noel (Guyana): 100 fly — 53.91

Thank you for comprehensively listing the national records. I wouldn’t be able to add this info to the Wikipedia articles if it wasn’t for that.
It’s good to see 30+ swimmer in this competitions, specially with the 50s. Good place for Argentina so far and looking forward for more. Happy about it
