2025 Hungarian SC Championships: Records Go Down Once Again

2025 HUNGARIAN SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day two of the 2025 Hungarian Short Course Championships unfolded tonight from Debrecen, with additional age records being broken over the course of the finals session.

In the women’s 200m butterfly, 15-year-old Boroka Zsofia Kertesz got it done for gold, clocking a stellar performance of 2:08.17.

The teen’s outing overtook the previous Hungarian Age Record for 15-year-olds of 2:08.46, a time Bettina Barany put on the books in 2009.

Splitting 29.04/32.76/33.02/33.35, Kertesz held off a charging Panna Ugrai, who settled for silver half a second back in 2:08.67. Laura Vanda Ilyes rounded out the podium in 2:10.00.

For perspective, as swift as Kertesz’s time was, it’s still a mile off the current World Junior Record of 2:02.96 Japan’s Suzuka Hasegawa registered in 2017.

The men’s 50m freestyle also saw an age record go down, with Zoltan Bagi posting a time of 21.85 to capture 5th place overall. His time erased the 22.10 Dominik Kozma established in 2009.

Further up the line in the splash n’ dash, Szebasztian Szabo reaped gold in 21.22, followed closely by Nandor Nemeth, who was next to the wall in 21.43.

Adam Jaszo, a gold medalist from night one, bagged the bronze in the 50 free in a time of 21.53, although he led the heats with an impressive morning result of 21.39.

Jaszo earlier in the evening won the men’s 100m backstroke, turning in a time of 50.74 to beat his competitors by over a second.

Benedeck Kovacs snagged the silver in 51.82 while Moritz Dittrich of Austria earned bronze in 51.95.

Jaszo’s performance on Thursday checked in as a lifetime best, obliterating his previous PB of 51.46 from the 2024 edition of this competition.
