2024 Spring Cup Elkhart Day 2: Leah Hayes Swims 4:40 400 IM, 1:59 200 Free

2024 18 & Under Spring Cup – Elkhart

The second day of the 2024 Spring Cup in Elkhart featured the 200 free, 100 breast, 100 fly, and 400 IM. The night’s action kicked off with 18-year-old Fox Valley Park District Riptides swimmer Leah Hayes winning the girls 200 free in 1:59.84. That time comes in a little less than 2 seconds off Haye’s personal best of 1:58.19, which she swam at the World Junior Championships last September.

Hayes would be back in action in the girls 400 IM, where she won resoundingly with a huge swim of 4:40.83. That time comes in about 4 seconds off her personal best of 4:36.84, which she also swam at World Juniors last September. It was also just off the 4:39.36 she swam at the Pro Swim Series in Westmont in March.

In the boys 200 free, Iowa Flyers 17-year-old Jacob Pins put up a big career best of 1:51.76. Not only was that swim good to win  the event by more than 4 seconds, it also took well over a second off Pins’ previous best of 1:53.08, which he swam last summer at a Speedo Sectional meet in Des Moines.

Patriot Aquatic Club 18-year-old Annika Parkhe went 59.67 to win the girls 100 fly, winning by a little over half a second. It was a very solid early May swim for Parkhe, who holds a career best of 58.71, which she swam at Summer Junior Nationals last year.
