It was a tantalizing day in the pool at the Men’s NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, with records falling left and right and intriguing battles emerging in the team race.
Indiana led all teams with 160 points on the day, thanks in large to a massive 51-point diving haul, while Arizona State scored 148 in the pool, surpassing 40 points in both the 400 IM and 200 free.

On the day, Texas led the way in terms of score relative to seed, outperforming their psych sheet projection by 55 points.
Cal ranked second at 28.5, followed by Indiana, LSU and Notre Dame.
Michigan, Auburn and Virginia performed the worst relative to their seed times.

Due to their strong performances both in the pool and on the boards, Indiana has overtaken Florida and NC State in the battle for fourth, while Cal holds a narrow 13-point advantage on ASU in the race for the team title. Texas remains in the hunt, just 23 points back of the Bears.

So taking current points and psych sheet points Saturday, who wins?
Still Cal.
ASU being able to still outperform their psych sheets after being seeded really high going in is super impressive.
Going through the lists above, I had Indiana at +35 from psych sheet seeds in the swimming events, not +16. I’m sure that the divers going 1,3,4 would bump that number up some. I’m not sure where the +16 comes from.
Any of the top 3 teams after this evening can make it to #1 — stay tuned!
