#20 Ranked Recruit Maya Schweikert Flips Commitment From NC State To Georgia For 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

#20 ranked recruit in the girls high school class of 2026 Maya Schweikert has announced her commitment to Georgia. Schweikert previously committed to NC State earlier this summer.

“After much deep and thoughtful consideration, I am so happy to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Georgia. I am so grateful for the patience and support of everyone involved in my recruiting process. I want to especially thank the coaches at the University of Georgia for this wonderful opportunity, as well as my Rays Coaches Ken and Emilie for their help navigating challenges. I’m so excited for next four years! Go Dawgs”

Schweikert finished her long course season at Summer Juniors and most notably swam to a lifetime best 1:02.17 in the 100 backstroke while leading off the Mason Manta Rays 400 medley relay that finished 3rd. She also won the ‘B’ final of the 50 back in a best time 29.03.

She made huge strides this past year, moving her up from being a “Best of the Rest” ranked recruit to sitting at #20 as she heads into her senior year at Kings Mills High School. This past February, she swam to two Ohio High School Division I State Titles as she posted a 52.87 in the 100 back and a 53.31 in the 100 fly. Her 100 fly was a lifetime best.

Schweikert’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 50 back: 25.15
  • 100 back: 52.55
  • 200 back: 1:53.33
  • 100 fly: 53.31

The Georgia women finished 4th out of 13 teams at the 2025 SEC Championships. They went on to finish 16th at the 2025 NCAA Championships. The team looks to improve at NCAAs this past season after welcoming the #8 ranked girls recruiting class this fall that was highlighted by #10 Kennedi Dobson.

Based on her best times, Schweikert is a huge pick up for Georgia. Her best time in the 100 back would already make the SEC ‘B’ final while her 200 back would be on the border of the ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals. The team scored 26 points in the 100 back this past season at SECs but did not score any points in the 200 back, so her addition in the 200 back is huge as the team looks to move up in the conference. The team’s top 200 backstroker this past season was Ieva Maluka who posted a 1:55.12 in a dual meet but did not swim the event at SECs.

Schweikert’s commitment gives Georgia two top 20 ranked recruits for next fall as #13 Virginia Hinds is also set to arrive. Hings is also a backstroker, with best times of a 52.75 in the 100 and a 1:53.92 in the 200 so the two will be able to train alongside each other all four years. Also in the class are BOTR ranked Maddie Thornton, Grace Hunt, and Brooke Bennett.

Smart because she wouldn’t even make the Wolfpack’s C relay.

Yeah, a 16-17 year old’s time doesn’t usually displace college kids at a top school. Not good for the Wolfpack to lose any incoming high potential backstroker, unless Shackley intends to stick around six years. Need a 2026 or 2027 soon.

Turning down backstroke U when you are a backstroker is smart? Hmmm. Her choice for sure but “smart” is not the first word that I’d use.
