The Michigan Wolverines have landed a commitment from Alexander Martin. He competed at the U.S. Junior Nationals, and his meet was highlighted by a 24th place finish in the 100 back. He’s incredibly versatile, with Winter Nationals cuts in the 100 and 200 back, 100 fly, and 400 IM, as well as Winter Juniors cuts in the 50 through the 200 free as well as the 200 fly and 200 IM.

Martin’s Top Times (SCY/LCM)

  • 50 back – 22.69/26.63
  • 100 back – 48.47/57.50
  • 200 back – 1:45.97/2:05.60
  • 50 free – 20.84/24.08
  • 100 free – 45.07/52.30
  • 200 free – 1:38.99/1:55.06
  • 100 fly –  48.21/56.08
  • 400 IM – 3:52.93/4:33.75

Martin would’ve made B1G C finals in the 100 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 400 IM. He also would’ve been very close to scoring in the 200 back and 200 free.

He would’ve also been Michigan’s #6 100 backstroker and #5 200 backstroker last season, along with their 7th-fastest 400 IMer. Whether he sticks with more sprint-oriented events or pushes to go with events like the 400 IM and 200 back, Martin is a ready-made conference level scorer who will likely contribute for the Wolverines as a freshman.

I believe that Mike Bottom is one of the best coaches in the world and his coaching staff is second to none. The amount of utter creativity and drive to succeed in the sport of swimming that they have is absolutely astonishing. Michigan is an incredible school both academically and athletically which is exactly the type of school I have always wanted to attend. Also, the coaches at Michigan put a lot of focus into building not just great swimmers but building great people which is something that seemed very special to me.

Martin joins a huge (and stacked) incoming class of Wolverines:
