Tommy Whitman, a senior at Germantown Academy, signed an NLI to swim for Towson University.

“I chose Towson because of the great atmosphere created by the team and coaches. I think Towson is a great fit for me both athletically and academically. I am excited to be a part of such a great program!”

Whitman competed in the 200 free and 500 free for Germantown at the 115th Eastern Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships last February; he placed ninth in the latter. He swims club for the Germantown Academy Aquatic Club under the direction of head coach Jeff Thompson and high performance coach Donny Brush. His best times are:

  • 100 Free: 49.25
  • 200 Free: 1:46.69
  • 500 Free: 4:44.55
  • 1000 Free: 9:56.83

Whitman brings good experience to the Tigers’ class of 2020, and it should be an excellent place for him to continue to develop. Towson dominated the 500 freestyle at the 2015 CAA Conference Championships, placing 5 in the A final and 2 in the B final (CAA only scores two finals). That trend is likely to continue, as 25% of the Tigers’ enormous class of 2019 are distance freestylers. Whitman will have three years of overlap with future training partners Will Dougherty, Aaron Magazine and Andrew Snyder when he gets to Towson.
