Thanks to the Metroplexes top swimming reporter, Bryan Flaherty of Reach for the Wall, there is now an official video record of the fastest 100 yard fly in Virginia High School history.
On Saturday, at the Virginia 5A High School State Championship meet, Andrew Seliskar swam a 46.47 to break the state-record held by Sean Fletcher in 47.08. That’s significant, because at the time it was done, in 2009, Fletcher’s swim was the National High School Record.
Seliskar also swam a 1:44.55 in the 200 IM, and split 20.3 on Jefferson’s 200 medley relay in prelims.
There’s a bit of humor in the current setup in Virginia, in that with the state moving to 6 divisions, the state meet has become diluted to the point that Seliskar’s 200 IM time was faster than the 8th-place time in the 200 medley relay.
A full recap will be complete when results are made available.
Best part wasn’t on camera — as he stepped in to the blocks he pointed over to the eleven year-old sister of one of his teammates and appeared to give her a “this one’s for you”. As great as he is of a swimmer, Cal will find that they got an even better teammate!!!
This kid doesn’t need air.
Seliskar went a best time in the 200 IM at 143.01, moves up to the 3rd fastest 17-18 male in US swimming history. Still thought he might have been able to go a 142. But think of it this way, he just finished 2nd at SECs.
1:43.01 in the 200 IM. Is that the second-fastest high school time? What was the record before Nolan?
Yeah it is the second fastest. Nolan previously held it was a 1:43.34 from the year before the 1:41
1:43.01 200 IM for Seliskar
I counted a grand total of 5 breaths on that entire 100…
Can’t wait to see what he does tonight. Nolan’s record in the IM is astronomical but Seliskar is so good underwater that it may happen. He went 20.24 fly on the medley relay a few minutes ago
Two things
1. He went 46.47 according to Reach for the Wall.
2. Those were his prelims times. Finals is being swum right now. In the 200 MR, he went a 20.2 in finals. Only event of his that has been reported on already.
Awesome!
