New Detail Revealed in Phelps/Aqua Sphere Partnership

Michael Phelps made his scheduled appearance at the Internationale Fachmesse für Sportartikel Und Sportmode (ISPO) trade show in Munich, Germany earlier today as part of his new brand partnership with Aqua Sphere.  At the event, as reported earlier today, Phelps made the announcement that the Arena Pro Swim Series – Mesa  in April will mark his comeback meet, signaling the end of his 6-month competitive suspension.

Before today, the Aqua Sphere/Michael Phelps partnership has been under wraps and, for the most part, still is. However, the ISPO facebook page offered up this photo of Phelps during today’s press conference, which, in turn, gives us the first hint of what the union between the premier swimming equipment manufacturer for fitness and recreational swimming, aquatic exercise, and triathlons and the world’s most decorated Olympian may entail.

Look closely at the background behind the well-groomed 22-time-Olympic medalist and you will see a unique image appearing next to the known Aqua Sphere logo – it is a combination of the letters “M” and “P” presented in a bold chartreuse color and printed in modern font.  Just the tip of the iceberg to be sure, but it still symbolizes our first clue into what the unexpected collaboration will soon be bringing to market.

I don’t find this very interesting but i understand business is business. I would like to know more about Phelps training approach this year and if anything has changed from 2014?

Chartreuse is a liqueur made by French monks from alpine herbs giving it distinct yellow / green colour depending on themix.

Not to be mistaken for The Green Fairy ( absinthe) that sent 19th century Paris into mass table top dancing but pretty powerful stuff .

The author is lucky most men see just yellow . As a colour this was popular about 4 years ago .

It is also a very feminine colour combo – chartreuse et bebe bleu .

I now realise why the Italians are part of the PIGS combo – I can’t see this atracting average men into a store , never mind goggles & cap . It is something Bruce Jenner might use in his new branding . Aquasphere will have to hand out some spirits in a refillable cup all the way to the register .

Seems like an attempt to duplicate something along the lines of the Nike/Air Jordan branding. Interesting to see if it can fly in the more limited scope of swimming, with a brand that isn’t exactly the premier brand in the sport.

Aqua Sphere already posted pictures of the MP brand swim wear on their Facebook page in Brazil. Looks nice, I like their goggles, hope the suits have the same good quality!
